I know about the ar10 and all but is there a cheap 308 kit that I can buy any where. Like m1sales or j&t or m&a? How good is 7.62 by 39 in an ar15? Thanks.

You could try looking into Eagle Arms, Bushmaster or DPMS. Model 1 (not that you'd want to deal with them right now) sells AR-10 uppers. 7.62x39 AR's are fun and cheap to shoot and a heck of alot more accurate than an AK, but good luck finding reliable mags.
