It is finally time to order my barrel for my buildup, I am so dizzy from all the choicesBeen looking at the complete uppers from CMMG. I like the look of the HBAR's as I will never mount a grenade launcher oor anything like that. Does anyone make a 16" chromelined HBAR in 1/7 or 1/8 twist? Or a stainless HBAR 16" with a flash suppressor? Are Suppressors usually an option on HBARS? I realy want teh phantom suppressor to keep down the "flash"  during the low light optic shoots (varmints). This will be a truck gun on the farm and do not want the longer barrels.

If 1/9 is OK you can get a Bushmaster HBAR with a phantom, if you order it that way, RRA or Olympic are sources for 1/8 stainless with threads, but nobody makes a chrome HBAR with a 1/7 or 1/8. Bushmaster made a short run for some board members, but don't count on another.

Wait, I think Colt does, but you'll choke when you see the price tag.

RRA's page does not say what chamber the 16" chromed barrels are. 5.56 or 223? I want 5.56. It does say they are 1/8 twist which is good for what I want. Maybe I am just all confused....

Im not trying to be a smart ass but 5.56 is .223.  They are the same.

Not exactly. .223 will work fine in 5.56, but 5.56 in .223 is sometimes too much pressure.

I believe they are 5.56 barrels anyway.

No they are not, military 5.56 runs hotter than .223. a 5.56 chamber can shoot either, but it is not recommended to shoot 5.56 out of a .223. that's why he wants a 5.56 chamber. .223 chambers are generally used for comp. use

Bingo guys! I want to shoot the surplus ammo as well as 223 match stuff. Now then..... 1/7 or 1/9?? I can live with 1/9 I think.  Mid lentgh or CAR length??? Which is best gas system??

Chambers are the same size but the pressures that it can handle are not! You can't go wrong with either 1/9 or 1/7.

Mid length is better for a 16 HBAR, andd I recommend the versatility of 1/7.

1/7 more versatile?? Hmmmm. Just got through reading the oracle...... Was 1/7 not developed for the heavier rounds of Spec Ops? Lighter rounds (varmint bullets) prefer slower twists while 1/9 supposedly works well with the 193 and 855 millitary rounds and supposed to be more verstaile. Heck this is my first AR build and my head hurts from all this??

Can you explain why 1/7 is more versatile??? Have I mised something?

Doesn’t White Oak make a 16" 1:7 barrel?  I was looking at building a "recce carbine", but where are folks getting their 16" 1:7 barrels from?  Would an LMT barrel meet or perform similarly?  I thought the hbar barrel allowed for better accuracy over time due to heat dissipation?  Am I way off?
