 If you get the chance however, could you post a similar pic with the charging handle removed & an emphasis on the area fore & aft of the cam pin notch? I'll be your best friend!  Thanks again |

If you are talking about the removal/smoothing out of aluminum prior to and just after the cam pin notch you are fine. I will try and take a picture of one of my well broken in rifles to show you what I mean. My newest rifle has developed this wear yet and because of it the action is very rough still.

Thanks for the pics guys! I would post pics of my AR's wear spots, but my wife's digital camera is on the blink.
What disturbs me is that while small in size, my marks are down to the bare Aluminum after relatively little use. They are in the same location as the wear in the pics, but I am experiencing more than just a smoothing out of Aluminum. The anodizing has worn away & I am looking at unprotected base metal. I'm not sure if this wear is self-limiting or if it will continue. What is causing this... an out of spec. bolt carrier or receiver? |

http://homepage.mac.com/mshadwick/imgs/6500+_rds_3a.jpg I had an AR10 that showed this type of wear, only much worse. It was caused by numerous failure to extract problems. These FTEs caused a spent case to be jammed between the receiver and an unfired cartridge from the mag. This caused premature rotation of the cam pin as the bolt struck the jammed cartridges. |

If Im getting this right ... Your seeing wear at the milled out cam pin rotation area in the upper. While I truely don't think it's an issue, I really don't know that it isn't . But most all my AR's have alittle wear there and a few with it worn down to the bare metal. It's aluminum,,,, It's not going to rust...... CLP and keep going... WarDawg

Every AR/M16 in the world has those wear areas, and they start showing up after a couple of hundred rounds. And yes, it goes down to the bare metal. And yes, after it gets to a certain point, it doesn't get any worse. And yes, forget about it.
