Which rifling twist is best for optimal accuracy with standard mil spec 5.56 ammo?
I am currently using XM193 55 gr.
It seems that each manufacturer claims what ever he is using is optimal over a wide range
of bullet weights.

I figure you guys will be much more helpful.......

If only using 55's, myself I'd go with 1 in 12.

55 to 68 grain go 1x9"

1/7 takes any weight bullet.I have both 1/9 and 1/7 and I use primarily 55 grain but do keep 77 and 80 grain around for matches.1/9 should work with bullets up to 69 grain.

No, I have'nt read the ammo oracle yet> I'm going there now thanks.

I am assuming from what I have seen so far around here, that with the 55 gr 5.56 XM 193 I shouldn't see any difference in accuracty between the 1/7 & 1/9.   Right?

Now, all that is left is to decide on a 16" or 20" HBAR.   Advice...opionions...???

W/ 55gr ammo, both 1:7 or 1:9 will be able to stablize it pretty well.  You shouldn't see much difference.

Longer barrel will give greater muzzle velocity:

- about 25 more yards of fragmentation range with M193 (see Frag charts pinned post in Ammo area) if used in SD or SHTF

- less bullet drop and wind drift at longer ranges so likely more accurate if any sort of shooting at 250yds+ is expected.

At short range (up to 100 yds), probably no practical difference btw 16 and 20.

And certainly the 16 will be lighter to carry and less nose-heavy than the 20.
