A2 stock is uncofortable for me, no matter what the length of the barrel is.

it throws the balance all off of a rifle... as a general note keep the stocks on the full sized rifles... keep the collapsibles on the carbines...

Rails, Optics, lights and lasers don't? I've seen a few pictures of the Pros with a tele-stock on a rifle. It may look wrong but if you want an adjustable LOP, it makes perfect sense. |

I am interested in this, simply because the collapsible stock is much more comfortable for my arm reach. I understand about the balance, but my improved accuracy with the proper cheek wield for my arm reach is very noticible.
The reason I am interested is I am considering building a "Tack Driver" for my first project, and I am interested in knowing what my options are for stocks. I like the comfort of the collapsible stock but would like the options of an adjustible weight full stock? |

The Ace SOCOM is pretty heavy. I have one and since the thing is made out of aluminum rather than plastic, it's heavier than just a regular CAR stock. Either that, or just add some weights to an adjustable stock to balance it out.

That extra few inches of saved length could make a big difference, getting it out of a vehicle in a hurry...

Thought about an A1 stock or the newer shorter entry stocks?
To each their own, but tele on 20" just looks weird to me. |

I've seen a 20" with a collapsible stock before and I agree it does look weird and unwieldy. It will still function fine of course, but I don't recommend it. I could see a collapsible stock with a Dissipater upper at the most. Personally the A2 stock is the best for accuracy, but an M-4 is handier.

A 20" with a Magpul stock doesn't look goofy at all, is solid, and provides a better cheekweld than a standard telescoping stock.
The Vltor and LMT/Crane/SOPMOD stock would be much better alternatives as well. |

The Canadians are using the 20" C7(A2 I beleive) with the telestock. It doesn't look too bad when you have gadgets hanging all over it.
The Army tried them on various test models of the M16 under the ACR program. Anyone remember the M16 with the vent rib? They looked dumbest of all on a 20" AR with triangular handguards. The gun just doesn't look right. With round HG's you can get used to the look pretty quick. It's all about what you're used to. A 20" A1 weight barrel in 1/7 twist, with a telestock would still give you light weight, allow shorter use with armor, or compact length for vehicles, and most of all give you 20" level velocity and lethalitiy for the 5.56mm. You loose nothing in performance, and still preserve the light weight and compactability. Ross |

The SOCOM boys are looking at a similar rig...Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle or SCAR. Basically it will be a lower+collapsible that they can rapidly swap from a Mark 11 to a 14.5" or so 5.56 upper as mission demands.

Right. You can also consider the A1, etc. Bottom line is that the telescoping stock for carbines is aesthetically awful on a "full sized" rifle. Form should follow function but many of the above choices look AND function better. |

I really like the idea. I'm in the process of buiding a new rifle with a 20" 1/7 govt. profile barrel and a Magpul. I think it will balance nicely.
