I finally got my 10 1/2" upper that was included with my m16 today.  I was told and expected the handle to be cut off, the dealer had already told me this.  However I didn't expect the other things.  See how many things you can find screwed up with this upper.  It has to be the ugliest I have ever seen.  I had to laugh!

Couple of questions:

The most important question is:

Why the hell would anyone do this to a upper?  The only thing I could think of was a laser mounted on top and it shined through the hole in the front site post.  Good god, if the guy would have asked I would have paid for the proper parts to save an upper.

How can I determine if the barrel is a 5.56 or a .223?  I saw no makings on the barrel.

Who made this poor upper?  The only marking i found were a C W in front of the rear site post.

Anyone want to buy the upper only?  I have already ripped it apart for parts.

Lol I wouldn't take that upper if you paid me $10 for it. Just what you need on a $10000+ machinegun. An upper that looks like it got run over by a bulldozer.

Maybe the previous owner did it to make it look less valuable and trick any burglars rummaging around in his safe?

Damn.  I usually choose function over form, but yeah, I'd say that's the ugliest upper ever...

Ah, yes... the fabled precurser to the A3: The A2.5

Note the Weaver base and 2-tone contrast design... An absolute classic.  You can co-witness optics and the fixed rear site is far superior in stability than some fly-by-night BUIS. Even the flash hider has an air of panache, with it's salmon colored accents. A must have for serious and silly collectors alike!

Strangest/out of place thing about it?

The $400 pricetag. I hope to god you didn't pay anywhere near that much.

I'm afraid to ask what kind of condition your lower is in.

That $400 price tag also made me laugh.  At first I was a bit pissed, but the more I thought about it I just laughed.

Technically it cost my upward of $9500, but actually I consider is a free-be.  The upper that is currently on the M16 a very nice fluted 16" A2 is great condition, and the lower is in great condition also with only very minor use imperfections.

Thanks again M4Kid for hosting.

Actually is was the old Iraqi $$.  Yep for the lower and one and a one quarter uppers.

Why the heck would you spend $9500 for a registered lower and put something like that on your upper? Spend the $550 and make it right.

I wouldn't and didn't, that is why I tore the upper apart.  The only usable shit is the barrel, foward assist, rear site and dust cover.

Added:  I was also able to save the flash supressor, it is amazing what a little WD40 and wire brush and some 1200 degree paint can do.

I'm sorry, but I would hang that sonuvabitch on my wall.

Did someone REALLY  machine weaver rails into the upper?

Thats freakin classic....

Sweet mother of God!!!!   That is truely the ugliest damn thing I have ever seen!  I mean the rails gouged into the sides are simply.... well.... they are sad.  How in hell did someone expect to get $400 for that.... that.... thing?

I have to go cry now.  It's just not right.

Well, I have heard that back before A3 uppers became available in great numbers, certain gunsmiths, when building scoped varmint guns, would machine off the carry handle and drill and tap for a weaver base.  However, when they did that, they did it on a mill, and touched up the parts that are shiny.

That thing is a abomination, though.

I kinda have a feeling those got left out, but since not in the description, not much I could do.  The other upper did have a bc,b,ch.
