I have an H Buffer that is a bit beaten up on the face. Can I just pull the guts out of it and transplant them into a regular CAR buffer (in place of the original CAR internals) ? In other words, are the aluminum body dimensions and materials IDENTICAL ?

All carbine buffers are identical in size.  The only difference is that one (H buffer), and possibly more (2H and 3H buffer), of the internal steel weights have been swapped with tungsten.

So you are saying that they are internally identical (i.e. same space for the weight or weights) ?

Yep!  All hold three weights, in some combination of steel and/or tungsten.
