I am not in a state that continues the awb but some folks are.  I'm wondering about a loophole.  Is there a specific tie in to sept 13,1994 or could the state bans allow a legally configured LEO rifle assembled prior to the state ban but after the federal to slip under/around the state law?    For example, your state enacted a ban in July 2000 and that's the effective date, an LEO rifle assembled in 1999 and legally owned in another state but post fed ban.....aww hell my brain hurts already... is there a way around it?

Well if it is New York, no.  The New York law is a 99% copy of the Federal law (it does not have the sunset) and specifically refers to September 13, 1994.
