Just curious what the differences are (Besides an inch and a half)
I like the looks of the M4's with the telescoping stock, but would prefer to get a 16" barrel since iverall the length is the same between the 14.5" with flash hider and the 16" plain.

Damn, you nixxed my answer.

You lose some velocity with a 14.5" vs. a 16", therefore you lose some effective range.  A civilian or non-SBR type would have to have a permanently attached FH on the 14.5", so you don't gain much by choosing a 14.5" if you were thinking about a shorter barrel.

The 1.5" gives you more velocity, hince longer range until fragmentation falls off.

if you get a 14.5 inch barrel and want a muzzle device it will either have to be permanently attached to make the 16 inches or registered as a SBR (short barrel rifle).

eta: the posts above came in while I was typing

Mongo, yeah I actually added the 1.5" part in after I typed up the post. I just knew there was some wise ass out there waitin to say "An inch and a half!!"

Is it possible to buy a AR with a 16" barrel and a telescoping stock as a stock rifle? All the 16" barreled AR's I see have the standard stock. In terms of accuracy between the 2 barrels, would it be a big difference. I'd like a rifle that can shoot around 1 MOA@100 yards. If the M4's with the 14.5" barrels can do that I may just go that route. They look so mean, and I'm going for maximum baby killing and fear inducing reactions here.

Yep, but the length issue is significant, at least for me.  I find a big difference in handling between a 16" with FS and a 14.5 with permanent FS.  Here's my new 14.5 with permanent Gemtech Bi-Lock:

QuietShooter, nice rig. Hows she do at 100 yards? MOA? Sub? Over?
I've also been toying with the idea of just getting 2 uppers. Or 3. Maybe 4.....You know how it goes with this shit.....

I haven't really benched it to see, but if it shoots like my other 14.5" with Bi-lock it'll be about 1-1.5 MOA with XM193 and less than 1 with Federal Match.

Just for the record, I've noticed that my Bushmaster 16" M4 profile, threaded barrel is about 1/2" longer (without flashhider) than my "post ban" naked muzzle 16" barrel.

Im considering buying a Bushmaster 16 in pre ban upper assembly soon. Does that come with a threaded barrel?

16 has more velosity and longer range potential

folks here helped me decide on a second bushy with a 61in bbl w/ flshider, not the 14.5 w/ fs

thanks all
