I was watching an Army Ranger competition on TV and they got to a shoot stage with M4s.  The hand guards on the M4s they had looked much different than what I am used to.  They seemed to have two layers of plastic?????  Does anyone have any info on these??? are they  available for purchase?

Thanks

That's it!   Is that for mounting lights and stuff (with the covers off)??  With the covers on does it reduce felt transfered heat from the handguard to my hand??

The cover is there to protect the rails, but it also acts as a grip panel so you don't have to hold on to the sharp, pointy rails with your bare hand
