I am new to this forum had a couple of guestions for you guys. I am in the process of buying my first Ar but not sure what company to buy from. My choices are Colt, Bushmaster,Armalite.Rock River arms, and DPMS all of them are around the same price and most have the same options are they all the same quality is it just a matter of personal opinion. Since i will be spending a lot of money want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck. I'm leaning right now towards the Bushmaster M-4 car or the Armalite s.o.f M-4. I neeed help deciding. Also can theese guns be fitted with a true CAR stock. Thanks for any help

Any of those would be a great first choice - sorry, you'll  have to decide what you like best.
Yes, any of those can have a "true CAR stock" put on AFTER the AWB sunsets.

Oh yeah - Welcome!

I would say... Colt but they tend to be really pricey for what you get.  Bushmaster is probably beter since you  get more bang for the buck; they are great guns.  Don't forget RRA, really good price for what you get (also very good guns).  DPMS is really good too, along with Armalite.

Ah...what the hell, they are all damn good!

Let's say................preference.

Oh, just something I have noticed, a lot of  people will say that their rifle is best.  Wonder why?

Can you specify what it was about the Bushmaster M4 C that stood out? What are you looking for in a first rifle?

You can't go wrong with any of those rifles...you'll probably get more votes for the Bushy, but, really, you'll be well served by any of them.

...Reload, previously cowering in the back corner of the room, slips into a possition by the back exit door and then, at just the right moment yells out, "Colt Baby! Yah! Woo-Hoo!" before running out into the parking lot...

I would steer clear of DPMS, I dont like rifles suited for .223. With RRA, BM, and Colt you can shoot 5.56 or .223. The DPMS I had sucked, but I have seen others that were fine. I got a lemon, so I am soured on them.

My DPMS has right on the lower rcvr. 223/5.56!  So not all DPMS are for .223 only.

I thought 5.56 or 223 was the same thing just that 5.56 was the NATO name for 223 just like 7.62 and .308 what gives there is no diference between the two cartridges.

Well right now I have a Ruger mini-14 Ranch rifle and  I am not happy with it the accuracy sucks even from a rest. I have always liked the CAR look but the Bushmaster has cromed barrel and forged upper and lower receiver and I hae never herd ant thing bad about them. My gunsmith told me what ever I do do not buy a Colt and I have herd that Armalites have poor fit and finish but I am just going by word of mouth. That is why kingcleophus i'm leaning toward Bushmaster

Not true, there is a difference.

From the AMMO ORACLE

"The chambers for .223 and 5.56 weapons are not the same either.  Though the AR15 design provides an extremely strong action, high pressure signs on the brass and primers, extraction failures and cycling problems may be seen when firing hot 5.56 ammo in .223-chambered rifles.  Military M16s and AR15s from Colt, Bushmaster, FN, DPMS, and some others, have the M16-spec chamber and should have no trouble firing hot 5.56 ammunition.

Military M16s have slightly more headspace and have a longer throat area, compared to the SAAMI .223 chamber spec, which was originally designed for bolt-action rifles.  Commercial SAAMI-specification .223 chambers have a much shorter throat or leade and less freebore than the military chamber.  Shooting 5.56 Mil-Spec ammo in a SAAMI-specification chamber can increase pressure dramatically, up to an additional 15,000 psi or more."

Jackson,  Good luck in your final decision. I have a Colt MT6400, and the Bushmaster M4carbine. I like them both. You know, on Sept. 14, the assault gun ban most likely goes away(expires); Perhaps you can hold off till then and get a M4C with the true telescopic stock, flash hider, and bayonet lug. Those will make the rifle you are looking for more military genuine.

i don't really know too much about ar15s.  i just got my first one today-a rra tactical entry.  they said 4 to 5 weeks, and it got here in 4 weeks-two days.  i looks great and i put two thirty round labelles through it flawlessly.  can't complain.  again-i'm not an expert, but i'm really happy so far.....

No reason not to be happy with the rifle you purchased. You made a good choice for a first rifle. You will hear us go back and forth on which company makes better rifles, truth is ALL the companys have a fault or two. As long as you are happy then call it good..
