mossberg 500,its a 5 shot I beleive.590 has the 20 inch barrel and longer mag tube and a bayonet lug.

Well my guess is the maneuvers have not begun and there is no engagement. Look at everyone elses stance not counting their point man if that's what he really is, he could just be checking his scope. In the rear their S.A.W is at their side. To me it looks like prep before a urban maneuver.

Looks like a MAD rear flip sight. I hated the fact that it was so easy to flip backwards inadvertantly. Glad I switched to the ARMS #40.

Perhaps his flipped down on him too...

I've noticed a number of pics from Iraq where guys are covering the top rail of the handguard system. Not sure why; seems like undue added weight & hinders cooling capability. This is the first I've seen where a cover was used to connect the forend and the upper receiver.

As far as BUIS go, nothing to forget with the LMT. I had my reservations with using one in conjunction with an Aimpoint, but love it now.

Of course, an ACOG prohibits such use, but an ACOG is always ready to go.

The shotty in the pic is a Mossberg 500, but the 590A1 comes in two flavors. It comes in the 20" 9 shot model and the 18.5" 6 shot model. I've got the 18.5" and love it.

Perhaps at the engagement ranges he is anticipating, he is doing "instinctive" or "point" shooting. If that is the case, sights are not used, one just brings the weapon up into his peripheral vision and fires away.....

Shoulder patch is for 25th Inf Div. What's real interesting is how clean
everyone looks in the pic. Uniforms are clean, webgear is clean and weapons
are clean. This cannot be Iraq. This could probably be the urban training center.

ehh, that guy is gonna go on a grenade spamming, 1 man war. The actual AR is the secondary weapon. The primary purpose of the rifle is to house the m203 cannon of doom.

I dont think these guys are in any danger, I think the camera guy said Ok guys Pose. After seeing the evidence about how the "topling of the Sadam Statue" was staged, Iam not really sure about any photos I see from Iraq. After this "Prisoner Abuse" thing is over I wont be surprised if they start saying we used gas chambers.. After this is all over maybe the Iraq rebels will be all getting free trips to Disney World.

The RAS panel was probably in place at one point... He most likely just slid it back to allow the M203 leaf sight to fit.

Notice how the pic is taken from beyond the cover of the wall; IOW, had it been a hot situation, the photographer would have placed himself well in view of the enemy and in the line of fire. Maybe just a really dumb photographer, but my guess is that its either a staged pic/photo op, or a training exercise.

Seems to me the Upper receiver rail is the most important one to PROTECT. I would certainly do so if I didn't have an optic in that void.

That interesting, because I have NEVER seen anyone put a rail protector on their upper reciever because the main purpose of a rail protector is to PROTECT one's hands from the holding onto the rather sharp rail surfaces. And I have never seen anyone hold there rifle, while firing, by the top of the upper reciever. Have you?

I think not begging, borrowing or stealing at least a carry handle is goffy. If he can take the time to put an RAS panel on his reciever, he could flip up his rear sight, unless thats broke too, in which case he should be DX'ing the gun ASAP until its up and running.

That's Iraq all right, cause the "kinder-gentler" advocates that took all the fun out of my job would never allow training with magazines in or without a blank adapter. And I'd recognize that nasty stucco and broken windows anyday after 9 months in that dump. Who knows, perhaps the guy is just a dumbass. You former military guys know joe will do some wacky stuff if you don't stay on him. Just a thought though...

Oh for crying out loud, LOOK at the pic.

-Dust covers still closed on the M4's

-Muzzle caps still in place on BOTH rifles.

-Dude appears to possibly be LOADING the shotgun.

Obviously IF there is an engagement in progress, then no firing has taken place by these soldiers. They have just shown up, and are getting ready to go. The guy (since he has yet to take aim at a badguy yet) probably doesn't even realize his BUIS is still folded down.

I didn't know Picatinny Arsenal made those sights. Are they hard to come by or something? I'v got three of them in my tool box. Steer clear of them if you get a chance to buy them. Two of them broke (the plate on the mount is really weak) and the third didn't get a chance cause I hacked off a carry handle instead. Your tax dollars at work...

According the the Owners Manual that Another shooter I know got with his KAC RAS, (I don't have one cuz I don't like them) Rail covers are there to protect the Machined Rails from damage, not for a comfy place to put your hand. Although they help in that area too.

Picatinny Arsenal designed the "rat-trap".

Indeed. I never goof on the stuff I see the troops do to their rifles. Rather, I try to learn from guys using their gear in real battle situations.

Yeah I should have ammended my post to include that. I guess those are duo-purpose rails.
