Colt built their first HBAR AR-15's to try to make a Squad Automatic version of the M16. But did the Army actually take delivery of any, and did any get to South East Asia? About a hundred or so of the XM-15 Squad Automatic version of the M14 did make it and saw some action, before the remainder got called back and were rebuilt into the first batch of M-21 sniper rifles. I was just wondering if any of the AR-15 versions also made it there or if they gave up on it before it got to that stage.

There was a model#616 with no forward assist and a #621 with the assist I dont know for sure if they were ever fielded in vietnam but judgeing by the picture of one in small arms of the world it has the A2 rear site so I would say no based on that.

I was in RVN during all of 1970 with the 5/7 of the 1st Air Cav Div.  No SAWs deployed with my unit.  M16A1s, M60s, XM177E2s, M79s, M1911s and M14s for the snipers.  That's all folks!
