A while ago there was a lot of thrashing around about a new 6 or 6.5mm cartridge for the AR15/M-16 platform.  Use the same mags, same bolt, just a different barrel.  Supposedly it would "fix" the 5.56x45 NATO.

Has anyone seen, handled or fired it?  Or is it still vaporware?

Thanks.

Same mags, different floorplate.  7.62x39 bolt.

Seen?  Yes.  Fired?  No.  It is NOT vaporware.
Patience...

I "heard" the military was going to use the 6.5mm grendel cartridge. I can't verify that, but thats what I know. :D

the 6.5mm Grendel was developed by

the guys that developed & market the .50 Beowulf

most of the "news" on ARFCOM has been focused on the impending 6.8mm REM spc,
apparently co-developed with Barret

What is the difference between the 6mm cartriges and the 300 whisper? I heard that round was going to be used at one time for spec ops.

I believe this round will replace the 5.56 NATO round in 5 years. We should tell NATO to shove the 9MM at the same time & return to a 45 of some sorts. Or at least a 40 . But the damn 45 worked so well!
