what do you think of this?possible? i know there are alot of fans and detractors alike, but it has good ballistics, not the best, but certainly better than some versions available now. factory ammo selection may be low, but it's reloadable.
 would it have to be built on a .308 frame? and who could do it?  just curious.

You would be better off with George building you an AR-10 in .260Rem and because of OAL you would have a wider selection of bullets.

I had a Norwegian Krag in 6.5x55.  Nice gun, what a tack driver.

I had a Ljungmann in 6.5x55, superb semi, and a tack driver to boot, wish I still had it

I doubt it would even be possible in an AR10 (although I'm not sure what the maximum OAL that action can handle).

6.5x55 = ~3.06"
7.62x51 = ~2.77"

That's quite a bit of difference.

You would probably have to custom manufacture upper and lower receiver, bolt and barrel group. Would quite a lot of effort.

Plus the 6.5mm is not used in anything but surplus military rifles anymore, is it? I thought it was a "dead" caliber(not to say that isn't a good one - but no new rifles being made in this caliber). Or do they still make hunting rifles in sweden with 6.5mm?

I've seen pictures of a Stoner .30-06 prototype, which was eventually scaled down to the 7.62mm AR10 as we now know it.  The prototype used BAR magazines.

Wasn't Lloyd DeSantis (RND) going to make an .30-06 length AR?  (I know that he has offered a custom .338 Lapua AR.)  If so, the .30-06 action would be the right size for the 6.5x55mm.

Well, just measure the interior of a AR10 mag and it is roughly 2.85".  So unless you use somekind of seriously modified mag the AR10 platform is out.  I foresee serious feeding issues.  Plus the cost of a custom bolt will jack the price up too.  Sounds like you would be better off having a M1 barrel chambered to the Swedish round and go the Garand route.
