What is the general consensus on uppers marked prominently on the receiver?

More or less desirable than a plain upper?

All it means is that the upper was from an upgrade kit and not part of a complete factory rifle.

I understand that, but that doesn't answer the question.

All things considered,  would you rather have your AR have the marking on the upper, not have it, or makes no difference?

I can't speak for Colt collectors, but for myself I'd rather have an upper without the markings.

To answer your question, an upper with factory proof marks indicating that it came from Colt as part of a factory rifle would be of more value.

yaaaaaaa, that "Colt .223" marked upper brought my wrath down on a seller at a gun show, he had it for sale as an extremely rare upper from Colt..., he wanted $650 for it !!!!!!!

Is your bbl marked 5.56 or CMP 5.56?  And twist 1/7, 1/9 or 1/12 ?  [coffee]

You are asking AR15-NUTT, right?  I don't have one marked that way.  I was considering buying one though.  But I guess I feel like most of the other guys who have responded.
