I just tried out a tip that an old painter told me about for using spraypaint. This works great on any surface, but I don't know if it works well with all paints.

1) Heat up a pot of water, about 3in. high on the stove.

2) Remove pot, and place spray can in hot water for about 5 min.

3) Remove can and shake for 5 min., place back in pot for 5 min, remove, and shake for 2 min.

Finish comes out like glass.

I took the pot and can outside just to play it safe. ( would not want to think about a OD explosion taking pace inside of my home. )


This works very well on stocks, HG's, RAS panels, pistol grips, mags., etc.

Makes for a real smooth outcome.

That is a good trick, as a kid I used to warm up my spray cans when painting models. Paint flows alot smoother through the nozzle when it's warmed up.

Thanks for the tip.  How hot do you get the water?  boiling?

Not boiling. I heat it up to the point where steam was comming off of the top. Take the paper off of the can, set it back in the water when you're making adjustments to the item you're painting, pull it out , shake more, and continue spraying.

You'll notice the ease at which the ball bounces around.

Wow!!! that's a great idea.  When I get the nerve up to try a camo job, I think it will help.

I have some new Center mags. that I'm going to beadblast, and spray with a Teflon baked on finish in OD green using this method.

If anyone knows of a better spray finish to use on mags. that comes in an OD green, please let me know.
