I'm going to loading for a BM 24" heavy fluted match barrel. I've had good results for my .308 bolt with LC brass & Sierra MK bullets. I want to make this AR15 all it can be! Any advice on brass, powder, bullets, etc. would be helpful. This is primarily going to be a long distance weapon and I don't have a lot of experiance with heavy bullets (55 gr.+)
in .223. Any advice on what 'long distance' for this weapon is realistic would also be appreciated. Thanks!

These are pretty much gold standard around here.
I use the Federal M193, mainly.

The Winchester ammo usually has cleaner looking brass.
The Federal is usually tarnished.

Go to the ammo section and you will find some good answers to this question that are more detailed.  There are also some links to good deals on this same ammo that you will see in that section.

BTW, I would stay away form the Wolf, and make sure your bbl is chambered for 5.56 before using any Mil spec ammo.

I am relatively new to the AR world, so I'm certainly no authority. But, I have handloaded for my .223 bolt guns many years, and have tried various military ammo in my AR, as well as civilian commercial, and my handloads. So far, the military stuff has, on a relative basis, all been garbage, with the cheaper commercial stuff about the same. I am sure that premium match loads from Federal or Black Hills would be a different story. My handloads, using mostly Nosler ballistic tips, with either H4895, H335, BLC(2), or RL15, will all shoot about .5 MOA in my rifle. The better military ammo is around 3 MOA, and the worst is probably 6! It's really pretty amazing how bad some of this stuff is. Now, for blasting cans or silhouette targets at 25 to 50 yards, it's great! But, for anything else, I have pretty much given up on it. Keep in mind, these results are for one barrel only, and your rifle could be very different.  Good luck, Ed.

for long range, handload 77 gr or 80 gr.  you'll have to measure and seat the rounds specifically for your rifle, but they are the most accurate I have shot, about a third of a moa at 600 yds.  If the rate of twist in your barrel is 1 in 9 go to a 69 gr bullet.

With your 1:9 twist BM barrel, I'd recommend a
69gr. Sierra HPBT over a nice dose of Varget.

I like 25gr. of Winchester 748 on top of winchester primers topped off with sierra 69gr. matchkings.

I know someone with a rifle just like what you described and seen some terrific (less than 3") groups shot at 600yds using 52grain sierra bullets on top a load of H-335.  However, this person didn't even bother to try if any wind was blowing since the light bullet just wouldn't hold up at all under the wind.  

I shoot the 69 and 80 grain bullets in my match service rifle but the 80 grain are "single shot" loads since they are so long.  I would think that the 69 and 77 grain sierra bullets would work great for you.  I know people highly recommend H-4895 and Varget and I have had great success with Win 748.
