I'm new to the AR-15 shooting world.  Besides higher mag capicity and more "evil features" on new guns, what will be different for me as an AR-15 shooter when the AWB sunsets.

Is there something different about the actually functionality of postbans from prebans?

What can I look forward to?

NObody knows, anyone who tells what will happen will be guessing, best bet....., be patient and wait and see, just like the rest of us.

the 5-6 years before the 1994 ban are often referred to as the peak of high-capacity and assault style weapons development.  that ceased to exist after sept. 1994 because there was no civilian market in the US.  we are now on the verge of that again.  HK is setting up a shop here soon, and Arsenal of Bulgaria already has.  not to mention American companies such as Colt, Robinson Armament, and J.A. Ceiner.  if the ban sunsets and is not replaced  i see an unprecedented explosion in small arms devlopement.  We definately have the civilian population chomping at the bit for anything and everything, after having been denied for 10 years.

The end of the ban is quickly approaching as evidenced by the number of "pre-ban" weapons for sale all over the place.

Which guns were specifically banned in 1994?

Okay, I have a dumb question.
When, provided there is no further legislation, exactly, does the ban expire? I had thought it was 9/14, but is it actually 9/15.

Actually, this was mistake.  I should have labeled the thread 9/13 instead of 9/15.  so you are correct -- the first day after the ban is 9/14.

What it means to me is:
1. Getting my Rock River M4's fake suppressor cut off and having a Vortex installed.
2. A genuine collapsible stock. I'm weird, the M4 style is fine for me, Vltor or Magpul not needed.
3. Hopefully easier regulations on importation of ammo, maybe more SA surplus on the market again.
4. NIW GI mags for $15.
5. 15 round mags for my Glock 19 for $20.

Don't think I'm going to have a bayonet lug welded on though........  :)

Under folder on my AK.

Threaded barrel on my MAC.

AR's, and HK,s will stay the same. They're already good to go.

It's going to be tricky here in Kalifornia. Like walking on a very thin line.

any rules about having just a barrel with a flash suppressor on it laying around when all you have is post-bans?

what about collapsing stocks? threaded barrels(barrel only)?

day after the sunset, install

what would it take to prove your gun was in preban config before some new ban is in place?
photo?

something signed by a notary would be great, but I'm not gonna walk into a bank with a gun.

You can own whatever pieces/parts/stocks/barrels/uppers you want as long as it is not assembled.  A rule of thumb is if it is not attached to the lower receiver, it is not attached to the firearm, and is legal to own.

Try a real estate office if you want it notarized.

Gotta be careful here, the ATF is likely to hit ya for having the intent to build an illegal "assualt weapon" if you have preban parts but not a preban lower.
