I purchased an ACE skeleton stock for one of my AR's this weekend and I really am pleased with the purchase. However, there's one thing about the set-up that I don't like (for purely cosmetic reasons) and that's the foam pad that covers the buffer tube. Comfortable...yes, but I don't like how it "almost" interferes with the charging handle and I don't like how it looks kinda cheap and prone to damage, soaking up sand, water, etc.
So, I pulled mine off and replaced it with a piece of bicycle tubing. I cut up one of my 1.5x26 mountain bike tubes and it slides over with perfectly. A smaller one might fit a bit tighter and prevent twisting or movement, but I used a bit of spray adhesive (hair spray would do) and it's on there nice and tight. The rubber provides some insulation, but the cool thing, is now it looks like a real skeleton stock. The foam pad filled the empty space and made it look kinda cheesy, IHO.
A super cheap change, that not only looks cool, but is cheap and easy to replace when needed.
And one of my "military" family...since I had the camera out.
