What are the pros and cons of my Rock River 16" CAR A2?

[#1]
Pro's:
One of the best makers of AR's.
Great warranty service (won't need it)
Admiration of all those around you

Con's:
Your wife will be pissed you'd rather sleep with it, than her.
Your bank account will be drained from all the add-ons you'll want
Your friends will want to borrow your rifle instead of shooting their own.

Great choice !! I love mine.

Pro: it's a RRA [:D]

Con: no chrome lined barrel [:(]

Pro: Never heard a negative thing about RRA.

Con: I think about my rifle almost more than I think about sex.

IIRC RRA will chrome line a barrel for an additional $50.

I have the RRA Elite LE CAR A4 Tatical and love it!  if you ask you may get the chrome lined, i did...  Had to wait a little longer but got it.  Absolutely love mine, no problems at all....

Two down sides:

No chrome lining and unless I'm mistaken, RRA has STOPPED offering chrome lining as an upgrade.  I'm sure enough about that to bet on it and I do NOT gamble.

Don't get an A2.  Go for an A3/A4 (flattop).  Much more versatile.

Other than that, great choice.  Welcome to the club!

RRA "US PROPERTY" lower w/ john Holliger tuned NM trigger (I'm trying the star safety out)
RRA 16" chrome-lined M4 barrel
RRA new style tac brake
PRI mid-length CF tube
VLTOR A1 length modstock w/ new rubber buttpad
KAC flip ups
TA31F on ARMS 19S

I just finished it off today w/ the KACs, & can't WAIT for the next range day.

You are wrong on RRA.  They are offering chrome lining as an upgrade on their mid lengths and their M4 profile barrels.  It is a $35 upgrade.

You can see this on their website.

giffmann, thanks for the info.  Glad I'm not a betting man.  [:D]

A friend just ordered an A2 20" upper and he was told he couldn't have that chrome lined anymore.

The bad thing is it's not a pre-ban so unless you put a stupid thumbhook on instead of a pistol grip you can't put a silencer on it

Hound,
Re-read Giffman's post.  R4s and mids..no mention of 20" because they don't and haven't done them in chrome.
Sluggo
PS..I was gonna take you up on the bet if he hadn't chimed in first.

The only downside about a Rock River is that you'll probably never get to know Tweak and the other fine folks in the troubleshooting forum...

...Oh wait, that's actually a good thing [:D][:D]

In all seriousness you made an excellent, well informed decision. Currently the only ARs I own are Colts, but I've had a RRA, a Bushy, a DPMS, and an Olympic Arms. Although I openly advocate Colts my Rock River was every bit as reliable.

In my experience a Rock River is a Colt with standard hammer and trigger pins. Mine got sold because I got laid off and needed money at the time, not because I had trouble with it. My other non-Colts got sold because they fell far short of the Colt benchmark for reliability and trouble free ownership that I have come to expect.

Now that you have a new magwell to feed you will have to start thinking about ammunition and magazines to keep it well fed. You will probably want to accessorize it as well, but you might be better off getting to know your rifle in it's stock configuration first, before you start going crazy with new parts.

Good luck with your new black rifle. You have a lot of fun times ahead [:)]

Great choice I sold my postban RRA M4 but it was 100% reliable and only sold it for moving expenses.I would get the chrome-lined barrels and you'll get the best price from one of the venders on the E&E.

you probably should have thought of that before you bought the RRA.............

You've already done bought it.  Stop dwelling, just enjoy.

I bought one of their M4 pre-ban uppers and put it on my EAGLE ARMS lower....fired about 500 rounds through it, without one problem FTF, FTE. I just had to lower the elevation down one click to zero it, windage was dead on.

as for it not being chromed line, big deal it's a not like you're going to neglect cleaning it, or exposing it to all sorts of enviroments that will cause the barrel to get damaged. some folks just put too much stock in chrome lined barrel.

there really is no cons to RRA

I have an RRA M4A3 upper on a Colt lower. The front sight had to be backed almost all the way out to get it zeroed. I got a bad bolt along with it, but it was replaced. After tweaking, its as reliable as any other. The finish is great, and shoot really well.

I am looking at M4gery pre-ban upper if ban sunsets next year with chrome lined barrel.  Otherwise, I love my RRA 16" A2 stock.

vic, keep us up to date as your break it in, sight it in, shoot, etc. I've got a stripped RRA lower I'm going to build into their "entry carbine" next year.

I would not own an AR without a chrome bore unless it is like my DCM rifle and only designed for punching paper.

An AR that you use for serious things or that tends to have a lot of rapid fire rounds through it needs a chrome bore not just for corrosion and ease of cleaning but for reliability.

They learned this lesson back in the late 60's with the M-16 but apparently some do not remember.
