I'm curious to see what we are all using for stocks... I'm 5'10" and the A2 stock does sometimes feel like its getting in the way of proper nose to charging handle form...

i've considered getting an entry stock for my next carbine... most GI's with m4's seem to use the smallest length settings for standing ... and lengthen it out for the prone position...

if i got a fixed entry styled stock... would it be extremely uncomfortable to be in the prone... should i get a a1 to have best of both worlds...

what are you currently using for your setups?  entry weapon / prone long range shooting...

A1 on my 20"

Vltor on my M4.

Id get a Sully Stock if I was building a post ban.

Check out Pat Rogers article on stocks in the new SWAT.  Its got a length of pull equivalent to a CAR stock open to the first notch:

I have had a VLTOR and Magpul stock on my rifle and prefer the Magpul.  It is more solid and has more adjustment settings than the VLTOR.

If you have a postban you can have the stock fixed at a preset length (I prefer position 4) and have it converted back after the ban.

I don't know... $119.95 + shipping doesn't look to apealing...  but does have a good concept...

lumpy... do you think the entry stock would be hand to deal with in the prone?

They're a tad short for me.  A lot of people add one of several different spacers to them.

I use my Vltor at the 1st notch in any firing position.

I think I'm gonna pick up a Sully stock. Thanks a lot Lumpy...more money out the door. My wallet quivers everytime you post. [;)]

I like the Standard A-2 Stock, Pistol Grip and Handguard, I find that a lot of the After market expensive stuff on the Market is simply Gaudy. I like a AR to Look like a AR and Feel like a AR.

Are you referring to the Magpul stock being fixed at a preset length?

I'd love to have Magpuls on my postbans, even if they were fixed length.

jar3ds,
I had an entry stock w/ a 1" spacer.  It was comfortable while standing, but it was way too short to be comfortable in the prone position.

Now I'm using an A1 stock and it is much more comfortable in all positions.  I'm 5'8".

Yes, you can tell Magpul what position you want the stock fixed at and they will give you a postban compliant stock at that position that you can later have them change back to a telestock when the ban goes away.

I've had good luck with an Ace shorty on my M4 carbine. When the ban sunsets I'm looking forward to installing a Magpul.

Ace ARFX's on mine, A1-length, purchased before Vltor's and Magpul's were around:

I had a stubby stock on my rifle when I took a carbine course and my groups were all over the place when shooting prone.I'm 5'10" and it worked fine for standing but wasn't worth a shit laying on the ground.I switched to a Cavarms c1 stock and couldn't be happier.I had a Vltor on my preban and liked that the best. The Sully stock looks like a happy medium for postbans but it has no storage compartment in it.

Its such a hard thing to really say, my least favorite is definately the A2, I almost regret buying the Superlight because the 20" is just too damn long and heavy to havw to carry around now! I really like the ace stocks, but haven't had a chance to fondle the shorty, and I definately want a CAR style stock rifle. SO you know what that means, at least 2 more rifles to go, plus my varminter, unless the ace goes on it. BUT FIRST! a job.... :(

Entry Stock with a 1" spacer (KAC, DPMS, or a buttplate spacer) will give you roughly the same length as the Sully stock.

I'm 5'8" and don't have a problem with the 1" longer entry stock in standard prone (though I do shoot with optics).  When shooting SBR prone with the short stock I shot my best groups ever (its my new favorite shooting position).

Lumpy196 already pretty much summed up what I was going to say. When I saw that Sully in SWAT, I immediately thought it was a sound concept.

But it doesn't get any cheaper than used/reconditioned A1 stocks. At present I have A1 on my weapons.

Ha!! I know exactly how that is.

I used to think that I was a supreme badass when it came to precision target shooting, then one of my Marine Corps buddies took one of my HBARs and showed me how it's done. The arrogant bastard even autographed it for me [:D]

BTW, he did this at 50 meters, with irons.

Actually, I have little use for a collapsable stock, pre or post ban. Maybe one day I'll have one, for my kids to learn on..............

I'm quite impressed w/ my ACE M4 SOCOM stock.  Fits me perfect.  10.25" Retracted, 12.5" extended (from trigger).  Also available are optional 1/2" & 1" butt-pads.  Very solid unit, the "breaching doors" claim is cheesy though.
