this past weekend.
I want one!

I'm starting to somewhat agree with those who say the AR-15 is a mosquito bite compared to the 30 caliber battle rifles.

We were shooting at steel plates at 100 and 200 yards this past weekend at the BRD.

My AR-15 in .223 was hitting where I was aiming but was just making a small "ping" and barely moving the steel plate when it hit.

Shivan's AR-10 was making a very loud "DING" and darn near tore the plate off the chain at every bullet strike.

I've got to have one.

Be careful mano. This interest in trying other firearms causes a disease. It is called obsessive compulsive firearm-buying. To date, there have been no survivors...[:D]

Let's just say I wouldn't want to be on either end of a 5.56x45 or 7.62x51 at 200yds.....

While the 7.62 was definitely rocking the steel, the 5.56 was dinging the gong.

Yes, you should have a .308 battle rifle....

As long as you don't have to hump the ammo very far....

Dave at www.quanticoarms.com is definitely one of the good guys and with fine prices too !!  (Even though he and his wife are active duty Marines !!)

You walk out on the range with an AR-10 and most people who cast a casual glance assume you have an AR-15.  Until that first shot !!

Worse news for you my man.  There are now three different caliber AR-10's - .243, .308 and .300 Remington Short Ultra Mag.

I just know you're gonna need all three !!

I love the ergonomics on the AR-15, and it would be awesome to have one with the reach of a 308, but everything I've read seems to indicate that the AR-10 has severe reliability issues, and that Armalite's standard response is to jam a finger into each ear and  walk away, whistling loudly.

It would be really cool when AWB is taken down and Armalite then produces legal 20 round magazines for AR-10. Just doesn't look right with 10 round ones... [:D]

Hopefully AR-10 mags are much stronger than AR-15s.

But back to the topic, yeah I think I need one of these. I keep telling myself I need but I'm not buying anything until AWB is kicked out. Damn... I can't get rid of AR-10 with a TA11C on top of it...

MavM., we've been using legal 20-round mags all along ??

(I'm looking forward to a real flash-suppressor and collapsible stock on my carbines.)

BULLSHIT x2!!!

1000 rounds with only two mag related double feeds....

In case you are counting, that would be less than 1% failure rate.

Edited to add:  There was a 16" Carbine AR10 used in a 3-gun match I shot this past weekend.  No problems, at all.  Reliable?  Yes.

So if I want a 99.8% reliable setup like Shivan has, what's the magic combination? (rifle, mags, ammo)

I'd heard enough horror stories about the AR-10 (carrier/receiver galling, endless mag problems, extraction problems, etc.) that I just wrote it off.  I'd love to hear some positive stories so I have an excuse to buy one...

Before answering what type AR-10 would you be most likely to buy - AR-10A4, AR-10(T) ???

I see many familiar members on this thread.
If you are interested in the 10's, check out the AR-10 forums to clear up any misconceptions.
You won't regret plunking down the $ for a '10.

Just bought an M1A and not even have had the chance to shoot it, but I am all ready planning my next purchase:

SEBR Carbine, but not in its original form. (or the DSA Tactical Carbine)

I can't decide
