Riiiiight.  Thompson drums are 45cal.  They come in 10 round, 39 round, 50 round, and 100 round sizes.

These are 71 round 9mm drums.  They don't cost $1200.  They cost $20 or less.  They are Suomi drums.

only hi cap mags made after 1994 are banned for civilian use... this uses the cheap Suomi drums commonly available now... $20 buys these 71 round beauties these days.  These were made in the 1930's and 1940's and are plenty legal.

Things on the website seem to be constructed just fine [;)]

Question.  This works with the Suomi 9mm drum.  How about the Ppsh41 7.62x25 drum ..... that would make me all giddy ...

those drums should work also... the 9mm round being slightly shorter...

The Ppsh drum is thicker than the Suomi drum, that is why I ask.  If it works, make sure you let the folks in Pistol Calibers now ...

How much for a stripper lower?

nothing wrong with a 7.62x25 AR either...

I thought the Suomi drum had a spacer inside to take up the extra room between the 762 and the 9mm... what is the outside thickness?  Off hand I think the Suomi is 1.5"

This is a little off topic: My Girlfriend has a 1927 Thompson in .22LR!!! I've been having the hardest time finding the drum mag for it, please IM me if you have any clues.

Back on topic: What are Suomi Drums?

good luck finding that drum!  A 22 Tommy... got to be a rare drum.

Suomi drums are for Finnish subguns, imported into the US this year in great quantity.  At Sarco and Tapco for $20 or less in quantity.

The Kalifornians should be all kinds of giddy over this one. An AR with a fixed mag that actually looks kinda cool...nice.

I wonder if the gal on the web site would give me a "demonstration"?

Calipers say that the "body" of the drum is 1.625" wide, whereas at the feed lips area, it goes to 1.765".  Last I held Suomi and Ppsh drum next to eachother, the Ppsh was "wider" (or thicker, whatever you want to call it).

If the lower accepts the drum it could also accept the Ppsh 41 stick magazines.  This would then not only allow 7.62x25 uppers to get more bang for the buck, but I can dust off the 38 Super reamer as well ...  Matching AR and 1911 in 38 Super ....

Well, Marty, if it works w/ the PPS43, I might sent you that barrel I bought from Corvus from his 7.62x25 project and have it rechambered to 38 Super!!!!

Edit...

Yes, how much is a stripped lower.

Also, can we have some close up pics of the mag well area???  And w/ the mag/drum installed?  Ya know, we folks are visual people who love info!!!

I thought California law stated that even fixed mags can only hold up to 10 rounds?

There is a similar thread in the Pistol Caliber section, and Vic is answering questions there.  More pictures would be great.  Vic has the Ppsh mags, so he is checking to see if they would work.  Redo-ing that 9mmx19 barrel to 9x23 would be a snap.
