I hear (no pun intended) that ACE stocks are supposed to dampen it...Please no more tacks! we have too many as it is...

Try using ear plug type hearing protection.
The muff type rest on the stock, and transmits the sound from stock to ear. |

The guys who shoot springer air rifles use a tar-like subsance on the springs to stop the sproing. I don't know if it would work with an AR, and I wouldn't really want to be the first to try, but I thought I should just put it out there.

My Ace ARFX is pretty quiet, a RRA with one that I shot was too. I think it's the pad that muffles it. It also makes for a comfy cheek weld. [:)]

There are some really great answers here...
You need to get used to it, its the proper sound for your AR to make, and thats just hwo it is. In time you will learn to listen [b]for it[/b] instead of [b]to it[/b]. |

I believe that someone here said that Bushmaster had a limited production part that wasn't in the catalog. It was supposed to dampen the spring noise. Call them up and ask them about the part "de-boinger".

[:O]BLASPHEMY! I propose the notion that this member be banned from this site for all of eternity.
No, really though after you become one with the rifle you won't even notice it. Instead what you will notice is the absence of it on the last shot telling you it's time for a reload. Never ever apply any grease to the buffer or the spring. You are inviting nothing but problems and your AR will be sad because you cannot accept it for who it is. |

Ok since all the hardcore guys love the sound. Here is your answer, you cna by the David Tubb recoil spring or just buy the siliconspring from Brownells, I know someone that has an extra one for sale if you are interested

I appreciate your feedback....even yours lumpy. I can appreciate a nice twang... but mine seems awfully loud. My brothers Colt makes no such sound.

Buy a M1A. It will get rid of the annoying spring sound on the AR and the clip ejecting noise of the M1! [:)]

"SPRRRROING!" is the sound of a happy AR.
Grease the buffer spring to make it nice and quiet. A little CLP will do. |

But, yes indeed as a bonus, it does eliminate the spring noise. |
