Greetings!
I am new here and thought I would share my latest find...
Here are some pics of a rifle I rescued from a California Resident.... (poor guy)

Looks to be a complete preban Colt Sporter Lightweight in .223. Has an A1 upper w/ no forward assist :D

Does anyone know what the redspacer near the FCG is for?

PICS:

Welcome to the boards!! Damn fine rifle too!!

Edited to say: The red thing is an Accuwedge. It helps hold the upper and lower tighter together.

It (the red thing) is an aftermarket widget called an accu-wedge, it puts tension between the upper and the lower, said to improve accuracy . I think it mostly makes the gun feel tighter although try it for yourself, just yank it out and close up the gun to go stock . Oh yeah--WELCOME    NHSPORT

I've never seen a sear-blocked Sporter Ltwt with a slab side.   I thought those markings would indicate late 80's/early 90's and be into the A2 style by then?

Just goes to show Colt would sell anything that was laying around on the shop floor.  I doubt the triangle handguards are original,

Thanks for all the comments :)

When we were discussing the price I didn't relize how good of a deal I had intil I saw the rifle :)

From what I have been able to read on the web the Colt Sporter Lightweight came in an A2 config originally and the upper on my rifle appears to be a SP1.

Again thanks for the comments,

Cheers

Bill

The local gunshop made a killing on the poor Kali folk on their "assault rifles". They come in town get the best a shop will give them, then the shop turns around and marks them up 100% and sells them.

P.S. If you know any other Kalis looking to unload their hidden illegal "assault rifles" at a decent price, Lemme know!

At least you got a pre-ban receiver for a nice price. I had a Sporter Lightweight with a lower serial number and it was almost exactly like the old Government A2 Carbine except for the fixed stock. Also had the fence around the magazine release button. Funny how Colt would sell the same rifle but with different parts on them. Is your stock the A2 type or the A1 type?

From what I've learned on this board, that accuwedge acctually increases the wear on your rifle (as AR's supposed to have some play on them). I'd ditch it if i were you...

Other than that, Very nice rifle. And to my understanding, you got a preban for $700??? Damn good deal if you did.
Congrats

Thanks to whoever sold it to you for saving a fine rifle from the filth running the PRK.

 Great deal...enjoy it!
