I put a standard 20" barreled upper on my pre-ban collapsible stocked lower. I was wondering if the longer gas tube would hurt anything? Thanks

Unless I've missed something, what you propose is not a problem.  So long as you keep the proper spring and buffer with the proper stock, you can switch back and forth between the A2 and telescoping stock with any upper and not run into trouble.  If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.

If you can put up with the unusual look of it, you should be OK.

Could I?
- YES.

Would I?

- Never.

Why not? FN made a paratrooper version of their battle rifle with a full legth barrel and folding stock and so did H&K. Might not look like the cats pajamas but for a sniper on the move, who cares what it looks like.

I hear they're VERY unbalenced

I did it with a RRA 6 pos (new style) stock and a 20" gov profile barrel.

I thought it looked pretty cool and the balance was fine (the barrel is pretty light).

It was very nice with an ACOG because I could adjust the stock exactly for the eye relief.

When I get home I'll take a picture.

I've seen several pictures of U.S. Army SF using collapsible stocks on their 18" SPR's. So, I figure if its good enough for them it will work for any of us.

I had mine set up that way for a while and it worked fine, I even kind of liked how it looked. I do prefer the 16 bbl for overall functionality.  I do have a 24 upper I occasionally put on my carbine lower, funtions fine.

Won't hurt anything. I tried it and the balance was just all wrong.
YMMV

I had a collapsing stock on my pre 6601 and it worked great.  Rapid fire no problem.  Hell, I never even shot it with the standatd A2 stock.

I have mine set up exactly like the above M4ergy meets A1. I think it's neater than sliced bread. My son thinks it's the dumbest thing he ever heard of. He can't beleive other people did this to. It's one reason I posted the orginal question,to see if he was right. Thanks all.

At this time the Canadian Forces will shortly be evaluating a new C7 variant. the C7 up grades that are going to be looked at are  green furniture with a full size upper (20 inch) and it will have a C8 stock (tele-stock) on it. all green. that plus a picatinny type tri-mount that goes on under the front sight. It is getting some very mixed reviews even though it isn't out there yet. I would rather see a 14.5-16 inch barrel. would make things more well rounded.
