You'll have to define what you want as "best."

There are muzzle brakes that work great, but have tremendous blasts, there are ones that look great, function ok, and don'thave as bad a blast.

The best working brake in my opinion is the Smith Compensator.  you won't feel any recoil or muzzle rise with even the lightest rifle.

The best looking brakes are Kurt's Kustom Firearms brakes.  They look like A2 flash hiders, but are compensators.  They are less offensive to the neighbors, and function well.

I just received an e-mail from Bushmaster saying they would have a new muzzle brake out in October that closely resembles the Phantom Flash Suppressor.  They didn't provide any pictures or possible price, but I'm very curious to see what it looks like and how well it functions.  In the mean time, I have an A2 Tak Brake from Kurt's Kustom Firearms, and it is very nice in looks and quality.  I haven't had it installed yet(on my postban Bushmaster) so I can't tell you how well it functions, but I've heard good things.[flame]
