Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - retouching anodized rfinish

I have a Vietnam Vintage COLT lower, with the original finish( grey green anodizing) still intact. Except for the faded portion at the area near the opposite side of safety, everything looks good for a 30+ year old receiver. Is there a way I can make retouches on the faded aluminum to do away with complete refinishing that may decrease its value if not done properly?

As a general rule, any retouching or refinishing of a firearm will decrease its value.  If you are concerned about its future value, leave it the way it is.  Just consider it as added character to a 30 year old Colt.

I have a colt pre ban w/grey green anodizing and birchwood casy alumiblack works wonders.  It however sucks on black busmasters.  I don't know what the difference is but it actually attacked and rubbed off the busmaster's color.  On the colt you can not tell where it has been applied.  Proceed with caution because you milage may vary.
