I've noticed several US GI's carrying AK's while watching footage from Desert Scorpion.  They were not just carrying, but clearing with them.  Can any current GI's shed light on this.  Is penetration and issue with 5.56?  Round diversity for the squad?  PR for the locals?  Spec Ops use them for sure, but one of the soldiers carrying was a 20-something female.  Go figure.
