Im looking for the cutoff point between the SP1 & SP2 ar15s. I know sp360200 and below are pre-ban but that includes all the sp2 rifles as well as sp1. Hope you can help me.

That, I believe is a very grey area.  Early SP II's did not have a forward assist just like the SP I's.  IIRC, I did see a SP II with a SP 199XXX serial number.  The electroless nickle SP I's had SP 202XXX serial numbers.  Go figure!

If you have seen a SP2 with Serial # 199xxx, I bought a SP1 on Sept 1, 1979 with Serial # 128580 so we are in the ballpark. The difference is 71419 guns. I also have 2 1974 model SP1s. Thank you for your help in this matter.
