Thanks..

There's a guy making 300+ meter shots with a suppressed M4 from a tree...  gotta love that.

Very good movie with some badass hardware involved.  Looks like most of the M16/M4s in the movie had Aimpoints from what I remember.

Good movie. It had some small technical mistakes with the weapons, but far fewer than most films.

Look closely at Bruce's M4, the firearms tech mounted the aimpoint and the GG&G cantilever backwards.  kind of funny.

In the village assault scene, one operator's Mk23 had the slide locked back a bit due to some melfunction, but of course the camera continue to roll the scene with him clearing the village.

End of the movie firefight had major muzzle flash coming out of the suppressors, the can on the Mk23 is a GG&G fake can, and the two M203 fired a combined two rounds for the entire mad rush made by the enemy.

Other then that, it is a good movie with some Hollywood plot.

I can't wait to see "Feel sorry for me" Bruce Willis as a soldier, otherwise I have good expectations, not great just good.

The sniper had a M14 and the DM had asuppressed 4x ATN equipped M4 with detachable carrying handle.

btw, I just got done watch the movie on my computer at work, the incoming F18 fired total of four what seems to be AMRAAM and the ground exploded with massive naplam explosives.  at least with all the digital technologies, they can render some cluster bombs under the F18s.

The plot was pretty horrible.  The action made it worth seeing!  I remember rolling my eyes and shaking my head when I saw the backwards GG&G Cantilever...  Have all of you seen the Army add with the backwards Aimpoint?  If something stupid like that can slip past the Army (althought it was the ad agency's fault), no wonder it got by the guys in Hollywood.  I'd buy the DVD on sale, but not at full price.

Circuit City has it on sale this week for $15.99.  $5 rebate if purchased with the special edition of Blackhawk Down ($29.99).  I watched it today.  Good action made up for what was lacking in the plot.

I enjoyed it, but thought the plot was lame, the tactics poor.

For instance, once that bird goes up, the pilot is in charge, not the the SEAL team. It ain't going back down.

A LAAW rocket is for anti-armor, not anti-personnel.

Why did everbody except the man on point have a suppressed HK during the village raid?

Why did they not use the SAW and Claymores to take out the whole patrol in the LZ or river when they were all bunched up?

If it was too dangerous to send in chopper for rescue/support, then how did (Skerritt), get to cammaroon?

Must be the only unit in existence that is not issued a Point Blank Interceptor Vest.

I have to agree with much that already has been said. Weak plot/good action.
Willis should have had the facepaint on the entire movie.  No one of European descent is going to make it long in the African bush/jungle without darkened skin.
Does anyone else get the feeling this movie was an updated/modern version of the 1967 Rod Taylor/Jim Brown movie "Dark of the Sun?

I want my 15 dollars, and the last two hours of my life back.
At least I didn't see the white wife beater from the movie stills.
The security sucked.
Apparantly we've solved all of the militarys communications problems. The squad never had trouble with their radios, they were able to use their squad level radios to communicate directly to the helos, and they had no difficulty using their long range radio to direct an air strike. The fog of war has been lifted.
OTOH, it's unfortunate that after the billions of dollars invested in Aircraft Carriers, a Captain has to stand on the flight deck and use a hand held radio to speak to a unit in the field. Did anyone see the seaman with the tinfoil for the bunny ears?
Nice to see proximity fused claymores have made it down to the boys in the field.
They had less trouble crossing a hostile border in the middle of no where than I do crossing the worlds friendliest border.
Someone else already mentioned the slammers.
What is the core of the seals? Swim Pairs, the movie could have totally redeamed itself if it had done anything with that. The closest I saw was the sniper/spotter duo, they were so close they were psyhcic. That and the heart to heart with Bruce and the guy who got gutshot.

On a serious note, does any one know if the C-2 is, has or can be used for HALO?

Should've watched BHD again.

I kinda liked it.  The action / cinematography was good, the plot was basic and hit you over the head with the moral at the end, just in case you missed it (ala Star Trek episodes).

For those of you who thought the plot was weak, do you also watch porno flicks for the plotlines and buy Playboy for the interviews?

I didn't notice anyone mention this...but when did the Navy start arming their planes while in the air...those jets left the deck unarmed.  I wouldn't say the movie had a weak plot, as a matter of fact, I didn't notice much of a plot at all.

I'm still going to buy the movie though, just for the action scenes. [:)]

I liked it but agree with the problems stated already by everyone else. The captain on the deck with the planes in the background everytime they talked on the radio was a little much for me though.

I enjoyed the movie and glad I bought it.  The acting was a bit lame but the correography, taking into consideration there were alot of dark scenes not a movie for the drive in, was excellent especially the chopper camera shots.  Like others have said the action shots were fantastic and I kept drooling over the M4 and M14.

As for the plot, yes it was weak and with very little characterization but I feel that added to the realizm for as much as hollywood and realizm can be used in the same sentence.  That's the way it is. You are told to go do something and nobody can predict the shit you are getting into and you don't know the characters you will meet so it's kind of like from a soldiers perspective in that regard.

The plot and storyline did show American soldiers at their best both from an officers and enlisted perspective.  Making decisions in the field and doing what's right against the odds is what has made our military great.  Higher officers supporting those decisions against recomendations was also good and following it up when SHTF with combined support when American lives were on the line was classic.

My favorite exchange was something to the effect of after all these years on the side lines and backing down, we are doing the right thing.

Although not a top 10 it sure the hell beats American soldiers raping their way to victory or Englishmen fighting werewolves.

I thought the action was pretty good.  What bugged me was the supposed premise that our soldiers are just bad people.  It was like Bruce Willis did something out of the ordinary by doing "right" for once.  Then when "Z" was telling Willis "what we're doing is right", that "these people were his people too", Willis made a little quip, like "we're doing it for our sins."  The movie definately had the Hollywood moral lessons put in it.

What I'm curious about is how the suppressed weapons in the movie compare to the Real Deal? Esp. the handguns. The cans looked too small, like they do in all movies but the sound seemed realistic to me but I've never been around a real suppressed weapon.

I rented it the dvd & forwarded through some of it.

i think that was supposed to mean, as elsewhere stated, for all the times they wanted to do the right thing, but followed their orders and stood down/chose non-action instead. One can relate in that sense.

You can only get so much footage of planes hopping off deck, if there weren't any launches carrying warshots on the day they were filming, i'll just give them a B for their effort.

Failing to see how the Aimpoint mount is less likely to snag on brush mounted backwards, but it's as good a reason as any i can think of.

Good action, possible plot but rather weak acting around it. At least death was shown realistically and they didn't all come back carrying 90 rounds a piece internally. Might be supermen, they're not immortal.

Not the best, but i bought it, i'll watch it again.

I cant believe you are actually buying this as an explanation.

The military is mounting canilevered mounts on the RAS forearm backwards to prevent brush snagging?  SO why do they mount the ENTIRE sight backwards too?  Does showing the enemy the little red dot intimidate them while you are using the BUIS because you cant see the dot yourself?

Why would you mount a cantilever mount backwards?  Just use a regular mount instead at the same spot and have the same effect and it would be stronger too.  This is absoloutely ridiculous.

Jack, why do you have to make me do this.  well, if this is the way the military eliminate snagging in the dense bruch area, maybe this fellow should make sure his aimpoint is mounted correctly.

But back to the topic at hand...

Decent to pretty good action, and I liked how it was actaully DARK at night (no of this day-for-night filter crap).  And think how far movies have come since the Chuck Norris/ Arnie S. in Commando BS that they used to put out in the eighties.  You want to talk technical flaws, let's talk about Predator!  Give 'em points for trying.

I will say that if all women in the peace corp or whatever it was looked like that, I would trudge through the jungle to save them too! [:D]
