.458 Socom vs .50 Beowulf? What are the advantages, disadvantages of both. ballistic comparison, availability of both guns and ammo? Prices? reloading data and availablity to get components, brass, bullets, dies?

I'm doing my homework before I go out and buy one?

Mr. Gun,

I am fairly new to the AR world, so I would normally not offer advice. But since no one has, I would suggest that you do a search on this site. There are several threads on the .458, .499, and 50. You will find a lot of useful information here. With that said, I just ordered a .458 a couple of weeks ago. I am a handloader, who has a 45-70, and I am betting on the brass situation to work itself out. You did not mention your use for the gun, but that combined with whether or not you are a handloader will probably dictate your choice.
Good luck with your decision,

Craig

I have had three 458 Uppers to date.  I have fired two and loved them both dearly, but ordered a custom one and sold the other two.

It is very accurate and pretty mild recoil for what you get out the other end. [:D]

I will be reloading so I like the 458 SOCOM design much better as there are projectiles available in just about any flavor you can find.

300gr up to 600gr....[bounce]

I'm sure the Beowulf is a nice upper and if I wasn't going to start reloading then I would definitely go with it as you can get ammo from Cabela's or Impact Guns.

I, also, have a 458 Socom. This gun is a blast to shoot. I got in on the group buy that Marty from Teppo Jutsu offered. And I am really glad I did! When you go to the range and fire up this puppy, everyone notices. I haven't shot the 50 Beowulf, so I can't offer any opinion on it. But, I know you would be happy with the 458 Socom.
