Here is a photo of the SPR upper I assembled with parts from Wes at MSTN. The barrel is a Compass Lake/ Premium SS Douglas 18", 1:7 unit with full SPR contour and a matching bolt to give minimum headspace. The RAS is the KAC Long M4 Match FF item. Comp is the OPS Inc. 2 port unit. BUIS are KAC. Scope mounts are ARMS. All these items came from Wes as did the Clubfoot VLTOR CAR stock. Talk about your "One stop shop!"

I just got back from the range and have finished breaking it in. No problems of any kind. 65 rounds and lots of cleaning along the way. Not even a hick-up. The comp was great and the stock felt great. Much better than the M4 stock.

The pre-ban lower has Ergo grip, Norgon ambi mag catch, DPMS ambi selector, RRA/White Post 2 stage trigger and Colt tube.

Here is a sample of the results I got. This is at 50 yards from a bench with a support under the RAS. Ammo was B.H. Blue, 68 gr. Heavy Match HP.

8 shots. Lower left was POA. I knew I pulled the lower right shot as soon as it went "bang". This was shot about half way through break-in!

Harris bi-pod and mount are on the way.

True beauty!!!!!!!!!  Every time I see those VLTOR stocks I say I am getting one for my SBR project.  What about the clubfoot style do you like better than the triangular M4 stock?  I know VLTOR makes both styles.  Again....Congrats on your rifle!

Now that's an awesome setup! I envy you. That's exactly who I want mine set up. The clubfoot stock looks perfect for the SPR project.

What kind of scope is that?

Thanks guys.

The scope is a Tasco SS 10 x 42.

The clubfoot is better, IMHO, when you use the non-trigger hand tucked under and supporting the butt piece. It will be really nice when I get the Bi-pod on it Saturday.

Q-S,
I still have my CQB M4 (RAS, M900A, M68 w/KAC mount, KAC 300m BUIS) and a dedicated, 22RF Keuhl- barreled M4 with Aimpoint and a A1 CAR15. I thought it was time to challange myself with some longer range shooting. I sold off a lot of options  and redundant pieces (do I really need a RAS on a 22RF M4?). I tried lots of pieces and kept the ones that fit my needs the best. The rest pretty much funded the SPR project.
Ed
This is my CQB unit:

ducati,
that's one fine rifle but of all the good things I like your choice in barrel length - 18".  That length still allows you to get 3000fps+ but is still short enough to be very handy.
Link Posted: 6/6/2003 6:09:44 PM EDT
[#9]
What kind of gas system is that on your SPR?

And is that Douglas barrel chrome lined?  How much did the barrel set you back?

Can somebody explain how a "SPR Contour" barrel is different than a HBAR?

I currently have a Colt 1/7 20" HBAR I'm going to have KKF cut down to 18".  So I may be interested in turning it down as well.

Yep - I had fought off the urge a few weeks ago but it's back again. Like "new-arguy" I would start with an ArmaLite M15A4 lower which I just happen to have............

(And I've just bought an AR-180B, an AR-180 preban an AR-30 in.300WinMag and two AK's and........am I a dumb-ass or what !!)

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm still breaking it in but it shoots as nice as it looks.

It uses a 20" gas system but,IINM, the gas port has been sized to allow for the 18" barrel. So far not a single hick-up. I've shot Black Hills 68, 69SMK, 73 Berger, 75 and 77 gr. rounds with zero problems.

I got the scope from SWFA. I think it is a very good value at $300. Side focus is $100 more. With the ARMS mount and rings (from Wes), I detect no loss of zero after many removals but I've only been shooting at 50 yards.

You can check with Wes about barrel prices to your particular application. For mine, the gas block and comp with suppressor collar (options) were honed and installed by Wes so the exact price of individual pieces is a little cloudy and I don't want to muddy the water by giving out misleading or inaccurate price information. All I will say is that, to me, it was worth every penny to have Wes involved.

gj,
ducati650 mentions at the top that his SPR has a 1:7 twist barrel and 52grn ammunition would be way too light give max accuracy. The 1:7 twist allows him to move up to 70grn+ ammunition and shoot with accuracy.

That's one heck of a setup you've got there. Are you gonna be on your usual spot at around 9am this saturday with this beauty?

If you are, let me know. I might just rearrange my saturday morning so i can drool all over this one.

I have heard some good stuff on the Tasco SS. Even up to 50 cal application - so i want to see it up close too.

Best, eugene

Believe it or not I bought a preban Oly two weeks ago at a local gun show here in Oklahoma City.  Caught a non-dealer with the Oly and it has a fluted barrel, Harris bipod, two GI manufacturer 20-round mags, old Weaver (I think) scope and assault rifle bag and snagged it for $850.  Best/only deal I've found at a gun show in a loooong time.

Soooo, I could sell that upper and have a preban lower for the SPR..............HELLO Wes.............!! )

I have none for 55 gr, and i reload my own 52gr and 75gr A maxs.
And also the 52 and 75 hp match bullets.

Amaxs always beat the match hps for all three of my .223s
Try black hill and federal 52 match HPs if you dont load your own and meantime ill check Hornady and see if anyone comercially loads the amax.
Horn loads 50gr Vmax comercially but there not as good as Amax.
