I just got my extended length swan sleeve with my aimpoint mounted on it. I would like to see what every one else has for a set up on their swan sleeve or any flat top with out an SIR or RIS system.

Here's one of mine from the side and front view

The first two are of my ARMS#38 S-EX
The last one is my #38 MOD on a KAC RIS. After seeing SMGLee's #38 Mod I just had to have one.

Slacker -

The bottom rig, interesting ... 9mm?  The front sight/gas block - haven't seen that version before (might be the picture angle), can you give specifics?

Thx!

These rifles have changed since these pics were taken, but you get the general idea.

Someone explain why one wouldn't just buy the BUIS and AImpoint mount.

Why put a rail ontop of a rail???

Hey Marty,
Its a Oly 45ACP w/11.5" bbl. The front sight is a GG&G flip up type, with the picatinny rail option. I put it in the up postion for the photo op.
No gas block, the pistol caliber carbines are blow backs. No gas tube etc. Hope this answers your questions, IM me if you want all the details.

Because the upper receiver rail wasn't long enough to mount a scope far enough forward to be useable (eye relief). Some folks like their red dots forward of the receiver (scout style)
A red dot mounted forward of the receiver is VERY fast to aquire a target with.
I wanted to use a scout scope on my AR and the only way to build a very secure surface was with a ARMS #38 MOD (which I already had) or a FF RAS, which I didn't have. I went with the ARMS MOD/RIS combo and haven't looked back.

Can you use one of the extended length swan sleeves with M4 handguards, or do the hardguards get in the way?

Slacker -

Thanks, hadn't installed any of the GG&G stuff, that's why it wasn't familiar.  Been using either the DPMS or BM 4-rail GB.  In some cases, we use a custom block in Dissipator fashion and add a second front GB/FS strictly for mounting BUIS.  Gonna try and post a pic, as it also sports a 36S-EX in keeping with the topic at hand.

Okay, I can see in your case.  But, for instance, dsr611's rifle, what's the point?

Not trying to knock someone's rig, I'm a newbie with AR gizmos.

#38 series incorporates the rear sight, brings the mount up to a level where the optics will co-witness with iron's w/o additional spacers.

they come in different lengths, personal prefrence as to where you'd like your optiks mounted.

right or wrong, thats the way I see it. [:)]
