No, this is the Russian cartridge, not the 7.62x51, 308 NATO.

No, completely different round. The .308 is 7.62x51 if I'm not mistaken. Next time you're at a shop ask them to show you one of each. They'll be glad to unless it's a jerk shop. We do it all the time for people.

No. 7.62x39mm is the Russian SKS and AK round. The .308 Winchester is known as 7.62mm NATO or 7.62x51mm. Hope that clears things up somewhat.

- 7.62 x 39 mm Russian on the left (Silver Bear "Effect" 124 grain FMJ) - 7.62 x 51 mm NATO/.308 Winchester on the right (Remington-Peters UMC 150 grain MC) The Russian round is used in AK-47 type and SKS rifles. Also in the Ruger Mini-30. The NATO round is used in the M-14, AR-10, FAL, HK, CETME, numerous Western machine guns, etc. Also in various brands of hunting rifles. |
