Stop noticing it? That's my favorite part! [:P]
After the first 10-20 rounds through my new M4 I didn't even think about it anymore- I was focusing on putting all the rounds in the center of the target. Why, do you still notice it? |

I quit noticing it once I put some Tetra grease on the buffer spring.

I quit noticing it when I replaced the spring with an Oly. Pneumatic buffer! [:D]

To be honest, after my first time out, all I could think was.....
"Where was the SPRONGGGG? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering SPRONGGGG!" Never much noticed it at all. |

I love the spronggg. After a 30 round mag I have an ear to ear grin.

The SPRRROING was never a big deal when I was shooting with GI plugs but the sound the spring makes when cycling the action still drives me nuts but the grease is messy so I'll just deal with it.

I have never noticed it since I first started shooting mine. Might be because I have a Muzzle Brake, and that sucker is LOUD.

I noticed it immediately because it's at the perfect frequency to buzz in my ears and jaw, and I find it annoying, but I put up with it. It feels like I've got a tuning fork for an ear plug. Hours after shooting, it still bothers me.
Is there a cure for it? (Aside from a judicious prescription of Scotch;)). bvmjethead, Were you serious about the pneumatic buffer? I went to the OlyArms site, but one of their links is broken. There's a listing for a AC4 Pnuematic Buffer for $129. Is that it? |

I didn't think the grease was so messy.
It pretty much stays in my buffer tube. |

Well when I tried it I probably put ot much on, because mine was getting on the carrier when it went back into the buffer tube. It was a mess, but then again I probably just put too much on.

it only bothered me when i wore the big hearing proetection. when i started using the foam ones it stopped bugging me.

'Hate the sound.. It makes the rifle sound cheap.. I lubed up my springs, then dried 'em and it's gone...
Now it sounds alot better.. All you people can't honestly tell me that when the bolt is locked back and you hit the release that you like the noisy "sprong" compared to a "clink"... |

I'm going to listen for it. I have high frequency hearing loss, I might not be able to hear it. I think the loss was caused by screaming women.

I have carbines, and they dont really make a sproing. Ocaisonally I will notice it with a rifle length buffer.

Of my three AR's, only one has a noticeable buffer spring noise. The other two are essentially silent in that respect.
You do stop noticing the noise after you've gone through about fifty rounds or so. CJ |

Slightly off topic but in the general vicinity: I just completed my first lower build. The buffer rattles noticably when tilted back and forth, an internal part shifting. Is this normal? Its no big deal, but I would prefer it to remain silent (and yeah, I know, "then don't tilt your rifle/buffer numbnuts"). [slap]
