I plan on installing a FIRSH type system on my 16" bushy and am wondering if there are any advantages to mounting the ML2 on the flattop receiver or on the handguards.  Or is this just personal preference.

While mostly personal preference, alot of us find the further out, over the handguards, the quicker it is to pick up the dot and get on target, YMMV.

Mount it in an AMRS cantilever mount and its as far forward as youd ever want it.

FIRSH does not lock onto the upper, its sort of just tourqued on. Mounting optics, which must stay perfectly alligned to be of any use to you at all, require their mounting points to be rock solid. Thats why people mount optics to the flat tops, or to systems which lock into place. The FIRSH does not do so and while the point is debatable, I never advise mounting optics to it.

My suggestion would be to mount it to the flat top with an extended mount like the ARMS #22M68 with the extention riser.

No FIRSH, but I have an ML2 with #22M68 with the cantilever spacer.

MSTN is where I got mine.

The #22M68 is about $100, and the spacer is $30.  You can get the non-cantilever spacer for $10, which allows you to have ONE mount that is cantilever or just straight-up.  I love the versatility of the #22M68!  For the price, they're unbeatable, in my book.

Also, MSTN has INCREDIBLE service!!!  Check them out!
