I know this topic will get a lot of general play if/when the AWB ban goes away, but I have a specific barrel I'm trying to lay hands on for my pre-ban Bushmaster that just doesn't appear to exist, so I'm reaching for final straws...

Requirements:
16" barrel
Mid-Length Handguards
Chrome Lined
5.56 NATO chamber
Prefer non-HBAR
And the one requirement I can't meet...

PRE-BAN!

After checking with both Rock River (no chrome lining in mid-length bbls) and Armalite (no pre-ban) I thought "well, I'll just buy the Armalite post-ban and have it converted".

So I called Quantico Arms to order a 16" post-ban plain barrel Armalite upper.  A very nice young lady on the phone told me that I couldn't convert a post-ban bbl to pre-ban because (I'm fuzzy here, but I think she was too) something about messing up the rifling, and if you thread the bbl it would be less than 16" or something.

She said that post-ban bbl's were designed so that they couldn't easily be threaded...

Thoughts?  Remember though, I assumed you could just thread the barrel, replace the front site tower, and it was all no big deal, so no  bashing the poster if what she said isn't quite true... ;)

I would think you could have a smith thread the barrel.Kurt Kustoms would be the guy to ask this question to.

Kurt is apparently quite busy, so I didn't want to bother him.  I've asked him two or three questions over the last few weeks, so he's probably getting tired of me.

It's not like I don't KNOW exactly what I want, it's just that I can't FIND exactly what I want.

I'm still going to assume that it can be done, but I have to be certain before I come off the $200.
