While looking through FAC's recent catalouge for parts to complete an STG-58 build I ran across a pneumatic AR-15 buffer they sell.  I kinda like the idea of getting rid of the boing sound.  Anyone every use one or have any more info?  Thanks

Olympic Arms makes them.
I haven't used one to comment on how well they work, but it's an awfully expensive way to get rid of the spring noise wouldn't you agree?

There are two or three of these things out there on the market.

One is the "Counterpoise" and the other is made by Advanced Armament Corp. or something like that.

The one by AAC is actually meant to be a cyclic rate reducer on full auto M16s to drop the rate of fire by 200-300 rounds per minute.  It also requires a different gas port diameter to make up for the increased mass of the buffer.

I have always been under the impression that those buffers are for select fire rifles.

if you just want to get rid of the noise then you could get one of the speedlock buffer springs.  they are sopposed to smoothen the recoil and get rid of that sound.  they are 22.50 in my last sinclair catolog.  i have not used one in an ar15 but i have one in my 10/22 and it does the job and doesnt give me anything to complain about.

Those devices are completely different than what he is asking about.  The counter poise is basically a moving weight system that is added to the bolt carrier.

What he is asking about is this:
Replaces the entire recoil spring and buffer.

Thats just more parts that will have a chance to fail.  Pneumaticss in my opinion,  are over engineered.  I must be using a different type of spring because I have not heard the Boing that you are talking about.  The industry I work in uses allot of Pneumatic pistons (cylinders).  They are the first to fail in my line of work.   I would keep to the KISS theory on this.  Keep It Simple Stupid.  I do think, if it is properly setup & maintained that you would probably enjoy it,  so by no means stay away from it.  I just think that adding an additional amount of parts might cause unwanted failures down the road...

If anyone has used them please let us know how it works & what you think..  Im not bashing any buffer system,  We allways need to make a better mouse trap.

Hmmm, never knew those were out there.... Learn something new every day.   Will be interesting to hear if anyone has fiddled with it.

I think it is David Hinelien who has one installed in his rifle.

Slows down by a couple rounds a minute.

Go to bottom and click on video hyperlink to see video of his machine gun being fired at a slower rate.

Well if Oly wants to give me one for free, I'll pay for all the Wolf ammo it will take to burn the barrel out of a Bushmaster I have and then render my opinion on the device.  [:D]
