You had a Sig 550? I would hit my grandmother in the back of the head with a shovel for a Sig 550...Ooops, too much information, sorry.

Those friggin things are going for at least 8k these days. If they drop the import ban a Sig 550 is definately on my list as #1.

Not sure how the prebans are but My instructor was using  a postban one at SIGArms. The flash hider was part of the barrel and was much louder than the ARs we were using.I also wasn't too fond of the proprietary magazines.Their LEGO locking feature was kind of cool though. If they were never banned, they probably wouldn't be so lusted after.

IF <-----and thats a big if [;)], the AWB goes away, rumor has it that SIG is planning on building a plant here and WILL be producing the 550 rifles for sale to us lowly civilians.
I will be first in line !!!
but remember, if.........

I shot Brouhaha's 550 and it was SWEET!  The attention to detail was awe inspiring.  I think he got his for $7500 NIB but then again I cant remember but he said the deal was so good he could not pass it up.

The rifle had excellent balance for such a heavy thing but his chipped the finish when ejecting brass.  I would buy a Sig 551 if they became available after the ban ends.

In case you can't find it in the EE, here it is on GlockTalk:

On the one hand... I'd sure like the AWB to go away without renewal.  On the other hand, I'd hate to see the value of my 550 and 551 go down.  I guess that sounds sort of selfish, but I had to save a long time to purchase them....

You should not care if the value goes up or down because you should never be selling them just shooting them and if the AWB goes away and they make them here then you will have less expensive spare parts so it should only affect you in a good way! [:)]

You make an excellent point.  Since I have no plans of ever selling them, their values are only relevant for insurance (replacement) purposes.  If their replacement values go down, my premiums will, correspondingly, decrease!  I'll have more money for parts and ammo!

I'm smiling.

The instructors at Sigarms said they were talking about making them in Canada not in the US.

Small problem Dev, it'd have to be domestically produced.  If the AWB goes down, it still has no effect on Bush Sr's 1989 Executive Order preventing import of foreign made assault rifles.  Remember the period of butt-hole stocks on everything to make them compliant before the actual AWB was written and made law?

That part sucks.

For 4000 dollars, Special Weapon will try to import a number of SIG 550/551 and 552 with fake suppressor.  it is bug down at the paper work level.  SW will make some US parts to make it legal.  this is probably one of your best chance to get a SIG for a decent price.

Someone is Us is trying to make a receiver and CCF have some replacement SIG receiver for those who have a destoryed 551 you want to rebuild.

I sold my 551 back in 1990, and I slam my head into the wall everytime i think about it.
