Now a guy at the gun shop tells me I have to get a whole new buffer tube, etc...hence pay the extra money. Will the M4 Stock work on a 4 position CAR buffer tube? If yes then does anyone know where to get just the M4 stock and not the whole tube and all?

CAR/M4 stocks are the same, are you inquiring about a particular brand of M4 stock?

One of the newer types? As many sell them, best if we know which type:

Magpul:

Regular/old versions:

New style:

And theres' a newer style Voltare?? (sp) type, which is butt ugly IMO... YMMV and since site is acting crazy, I can't find a pic of....

All will slide over your existing buffer tube and work IIRC.

Pick the one your taking about and well help ya find one....

Just wait - Cav Arms (in the Industry section) is starting to make them in a variety of colors - Dillion Precision (the Blue Press) should be carrying them when they are out.

For now you could ask there they may have a pre-production sample they could sell.

You are mistaken about the M93 stock the M9 buffer is proprietary and Magpul stocks only work with the M9 Magpul tube.  The spring and buffer are standard carbine however.

mr_wilson, you're thinking of the VLTOR Modstock.

Got the rifle stock and love it, ordered the carbine stock and should get it this week. Can't wait!

Mr. Wilson-

The Vltor is not an ugly stock, just unique. People said similar things about the MagPul stock, "RoBoCop on Acid". It seems to me that every stock has a purpose and is unique in their own way.

I remember when I first got my Colt ACR stock, no one liked it. Now, everyone is improving on its design.

I have a VLTOR stock on my preban Colt Sporter M4.  That is THE best buttstock on the market by far.  You can install a cheek piece on either or both sides, or a battery compartment on either or both sides.  The battery storage compartment is 100% waterproof.  The VLTOR buttstock fits firm onto the the buffer tube, not too loose, not too tight.  If you have a SureFire tac light or a battery-operated optic like an Aimpoint or EOTech like I do, then you can store batteries incase they go out when you need them.  I talked with the guy at VLTOR and he said they will be adding new options to attach to the VLTOR stock in the near future.

Do not forget that a genuine Colt buffer tube- whether CAR or M4, is a different diameter than all of the other brands.
