On BBC News  May 12 they showed video of the new State Dept head arriving in Bagdad.  His security carried an M4 with a SIR and Aimpoint!  that's the first SIR I've seen in Iraq.

Jack (3rdtk) had a funny reply to some folks saying they hadnt been seeing any SIRs on the news etc. It was something like Iraqi's and Afganastans have been seeing them plenty, but from the front end! Hahaha!

[#2]
You probably haven't seen a lot of them on TV because they don't show most SF guys on TV, unlike in Afghanistan when all we saw for months were SF guys. Most of the folks on TV carry around RAS/RIS rails because they're Marines or Army guys who have had these weapons for some time before 9/11. The SIR is still relatively new and probably used by only the elite SFs (same thing with the RAS II). You're not going to see those guys on TV all that much, unless you're an Iraqi as Jack says.

If you take a closer look, the stock on the gun in the second picture shows a aftermarket six position type, not the new factory Colt M4 stock.  can this also be a different receiver other then a Colt??

Ahab, nice pictures as always.  good job.

Very impressive pictures,  They looked like they were ready for the SHTF.  Dont think you can ever have too many magazines.  The guy with the sunglasses in the second picture looks like he's ready for a quick draw..

That guy Paul Bremer works for the State Department. He's a total dumb ass. I'm waiting for a Beirut-like truck bomb to enter an American compound next. The State Dept is really mucking things up over there, and American troops are going to get killed because of it.

Those 11" barrels neuter the 5.56 round. That guy with the M4 does look high speed though. I still wouldn't pick a fight with him.

The guy with the pistol looks about 1/2 a second away from a draw. Oh to be able to walk around like that all day! I would love to walk around with my AR slung across my chest.

Then nobody would ever mess with me...

High speed...by the drive through window at McDonalds.  He's at least 50 pounds overweight.  I guess there is hope for the rest of us!

He doesn't look overweight, especially not 50 pounds over... that sag to the chest harness is probably from the weight IN the harness, not from a gut pushing it out.

That guy who is "50# overweight" probably has been a soldier longer than you have been sitting at your computer wishing you could be a soldier. I think you'd be suprised, the Delta boy's and SF guys are just regular guys, not super humans. But they could still whup just about anyone's ass, even the "tough" guys who sit at their computers and talk real tough. The PA for our Bn. in the 82nd was a former Delta guy, he was very soft spoken (not overly loud and obnoxious, like a typical infantry joe) and relaxed, but that MF was a helluva soldier. Looked just like that guy in the photo. Not tryin to start something, but it is very easy to criticize while sitting in the comfort of our homes, not pulling security in a hostile land, contantly fearing for your life, always going to where the action is.

That 50 lb. overweight guy looks tough with that ar strapped to his chest. I'll whoop his ass in hand to hand combat though! That is training and experience talking. He has basic fighting skills which become useless once i take him to the ground, beat on him, and then finally end his day with a choke. But that m4 sure is sweet! 3 round burst anyone?

i see nothing about that guy that would indicate a lack of physical ability to defend his pricipal by whatever means were at hand.

If you look, the buckles on their rigs are attached directly to the carrier extension. On the BH rig, you can see the buckles are not attached to the extension, but to the rigs body.

I know two retired seals, like 82abnmedic stated they were both soft spoken.  I was eager to ask him about some of his missions he was involved in.  He just grinned & said he had never been on a mission.  Just a bunch of "training exercises".  He was 100% Native American Indian,  about the same size as the SF guy in the picture.  I can say this,  they were never trash talkers, talked big,  bragged, or ever the center of attention.  I was lucky enough to hear some of his "training Missions" and believe me,  I was so impressed by their professionalism, stamina, and emphasis on the word "we, our team, our unit, and our family".  Never did they say I.  I would say that it is a bit degrading to say your going to whoop anyone in hand to hand.  I know the SEAL I am referring to would make an athiest pray!.  If you ever want to get a good laugh just rent all of the Ultimate fighting championship videos at your local Blockbuster & see how all of the Martial artists that claimed to be black belt or better faired.  They lost,  and lost badly.  Most of the winners were grapplers...  That Kung Fu crap works until you get your teeth handed back to you.  Like I have said before,  you have two eyes, and two ears.  Listen & watch twice as much as you speak.  Dont let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird butt....   This thread is designed to help others learn not warn everybody about how tough you are..  Hell I wouldnt last a second against those guys.  But I do know I can run faster....

Ever seen a white Carl Lewis?

I too think that guy is a litle heavy. Then again, So What? It won't effect his current job, part of which is to be a shield for the "asset" he is assigned to protect.

As far as the rifle. Yes there will be mobility vs efficacy considerations. That carbine is far more mobile than a rifle, which is important for getting in and out of cars. It will also be easier to retain if neccesary in a crowd situation.

That carbine will be used one of 2 ways. Accurate fire to eliminate a threat, or suppressive fire to allow time to evacuate an asset. Think that carbine will fire bullets that will go through a head a 100 yds?

I just do not see where he is overweight.  Ways more than me maybe but far from OVER(again).  Look at the desceptive way the photo sags his chest rig and the fact he's wearing a dark shirt.  You cannot tell where his torso starts and ends and the pic makes him look bigger......oh, not this site too!

8 years of rolling around on the ground with sweaty men and this is the way he's learned to deal with society.

I've learned that the braggarts are always the ones that cannot back it up.  I've been in NHB for a while and repeatedly see guys come and go who like to talk shit but then get knocked out.

Why in the hell am I even responding to this [:o)] ?

The guy is probably retired military.  His job is to shoot, not hump 30 miles.  He has probably put more rounds down range than we can dream about.

The few Delta types I have met are fairly big dudes.

The VIP is in different clothing in the different shots, yet the same operator is in all the shots. He is either apart of that guys security, or general VIP security that comes. (more likely)
That type of job, getting some time for PT is a luxury.
