[LOL] Ive only known one person who says that, he'd gotten away with it up to being a second semester senior in college before saying it in a design team meeting one day and I corrected him... his whole life shattered in that moment... I thought he was going to start crying

Butchering of the English language pet peeves:

1. It's people WHO, not people THAT.
eg: "People WHO live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

2. It's try TO, not try AND.
eg: "Let's try TO accomplish that task."

3. It's AN historic event, not A historic event.

4. It's a LECTERN, not a goddamned PODIUM.
A PODIUM is a raised platform.
A LECTERN is the structure that speakers stand behind.

I feel better now that I've vented. Thank you.

I will admit

sometimes I goof up the 'there/their/they're' thing, usually when I am typing a couple of words behind what I am thinking.

And I forgive transposing a couple of letters, because we all do it.

What gets me though is:

'irregardless'

That drives me up the wall.  I once corrected one of my ex-bosses during a group meeting after she had used it 5-6 times.  Didnt go over real well.

On the scope subject, I hate when people describe a variable power scope separating the magnifications with Xs. Like 3X9X40 when they mean 3-9X40. Even some of the manufacturers do it. Drives me nuts almost as bad as when people pronounce "Nuclear" as "Nook-yoo-ler".

flammable vs inflammable

(From dictionary.com)

Usage Note: Historically, flammable and inflammable mean the same thing. However, the presence of the prefix in- has misled many people into assuming that inflammable means “not flammable” or “noncombustible.” The prefix -in in inflammable is not, however, the Latin negative prefix -in, which is related to the English -un and appears in such words as indecent and inglorious. Rather, this -in is an intensive prefix derived from the Latin preposition in. This prefix also appears in the word enflame. But many people are not aware of this derivation, and for clarity's sake it is advisable to use only flammable to give warnings.

Hey...can you tell I had to look it up?![:D]

More subtle, but how about the common misplacement of 'only'?

How about, "I shoot only Bushmaster rifles."

Sure there is.

What to buy some preban clips from me for $25 each?

I'll be sure to send you some nice $0.02 stripper clips.

If you ask me if I can spare a clip, and I hand you a magazine, it won't help you to reload your magazine, now will it?

"for all intensive purposes"

that just cracks me up.

I used to have a sig line about "I could care less" because it is such a peeve of mine.

To me, that is the epitome of careless and lazy communication.

Everyone makes mistakes but it is disappointing that some folks are actively ignorant.

Oh yeah

the infamous 'Hot water heater', I used to sell water heaters for Sears while I was in College, used to cringe every time I heard that, would even correct people in store meeting using that term.

So and so says: " this hot water heater is ..."

My response: " if the water is already hot why do you need to heat it?"
