Like most folks I'm not made of money so I always look for a deal. Local dealer will sell me a brand new Olympic Arms ".223 Plinker" for $599 out the door. I love AR-15's and just need to know if this entry level firearm is worth the purchase.
Thanks for the info.

I've got a buddy who has one.  At first, it was nothing but jam, jam, jam.  That was with the factory mag and a beat all to hell mag.  He finally ponied up some bucks to get new in wrap Colt 20 rounders and some Thermold 30 rounders.  He has no reliability issues anymore.  It doesn't shoot sub-MOA at 100 yards, but for plinking it's a decent buy.

Pick up a SGN, you should be able to order one from there for $499, about $20 shipping and a $25 transfer...

Or you could buy a kit for $425 and a receiver for $100 and put it together yourself.

Hiram, where do you find receivers for $100?
the cheapest I've found are RRAs for $125.

Keep your eyes on the EE.  I bought Oly cast lowers from Oly couple years ago for around $82 each shipped (group of friends and I went in on them together).  There is currently a bushmaster on the EE for $125 shipped.  Deals are out there.  Quantico Arms has 5 Eagle Arms for $550.  Just have to be vigilant.

Which would be $525 plus shipping and plus transfer fees.  The $599 is a good deal, and you get to support a local dealer.z

This could be me talking.

I would've replied with an almost mirrored post.

My buddy is having jamming problems with his factory mag - ditch that POS mag before you try out your plinker.

And yes, he has zero problems with his USGI (Parsons) mags.

Its a no-frills budget gun, you gets what you paid for.

The handguards are not metal lined. The upper & lower receivers are both cast. It comes with 1 steel 10rnd mag.

That being said, UPS dropped one off here today for a friend of mine who is just getting into center fire rifles. (he has a box full of Glocks...)

Makes a great starter AR, any extra accessories you buy will work with other future AR's, and when you tire of your Plinker, you should be able to sell it at break even or even a small profit over time.
