A preban Eagle should not run you much more than $1200 in mint/excellent condition.  $1000 would be a high, but fair price for a preban.  The mags are what to look for.  If they are steel mags, forget them.  Steel mags will absolutely, positively fail and should be avoided.  The ones sold by Cheaper Than Dirt, Tapco, and most other shooting supply catalogs are a waste of money.  Get only GI aluminum, Orlite, and Thermolds to be safe.  GI aluminum ones are absolutely 100% reliable in a well built and cared for rifle.  I personally payed $2000 for a preban recently, but it was a unfired Bushy.  Anything over $1200 would have to be a real collector's piece.  Avoid them unless they are to be treated as such.
