i have mine mounted so it folds forward out of the way.

Depending on how much the rifle recoils, the bipod can be mounted either way.

But if you have a heavy recoiling rifle, mount the legs folding forward.  If mounted the other way, one of the legs could be bent if the leg is not allowed to recoil with the rifle.
