It is the military version.  I also have the ARMS #23 forward grip for it.  I like the combo.  SIR or RAS, it is all a matter of personal preference.  What I like about the SIR is that the side and bottom rails can be moved or removed.

Looks like an RRA tactical carry handle.

It's the RRA "Tac Handle". It allow the use of a standard height Aimpoint ring (I have the heavy duty version), and positions it at a perfect height that the standard sights can be used right through the glass. I love mine!

HKgnnr has one on his rifle too, sans optics.

I have a pic of my pre-ban All-Colt 16" M4 (without the tele-stock on it since I cannot get the damn buffer tube off of the receiver!!!). It looks like all of the other 16.1" LE Colt M4s, except the receiver does not match in color since its not an LE-only receiver, so no use posting a picture of it...

Anyone have ANY idea on how to get the buffer tube off????? once the buttstock is removed, at the end of the long tube appears to be a place where you can place a wrench to unscrew the tube. Should it be that hard to remove? It has never been removed before... please help!

Just put it together today.

Actually, it's a Rock River SST 16" Carbine with a Tac Handle and OKO Reflex.

The Rail tube is a Les Baer 8.5" Free Float.  The gas block is actually under the float tube.

I drilled and tap the front sight base for set screws. I also put a thin layer of JB WELD inside the sight base's first retaining area to compensate for the barrel's diameter difference.

Going out later today to see what it can do.  I'll report back later.

RRISIRAS-"Rock River RIS-SIR-RAS"

I got scolded once for calling the float tube a RAS

PS.  1/2 the of parts were purchased from other members.  Thanks guys!  You may recognize some pieces.

AR_Rifle, nice gear! I use the same Aimpoint set up as you... with the GG&G Cantilever mount. However, I mount the cantilever on the very last rail of the upper. This is what the mount was designed to do. It puts the Aimpiont out further than where it mounts. This is so you can more effectively forward mount it on a flat top upper. Forward mounting has MANY advantages over mounting it closer to your eye. It clears your field of view, makes two eye open shooting easier, aids in quick target acquisition, makes focusing quicker and easier etc. etc. Have you tried to use the mount like this? If not, give it a try, I think you will like forward mounting WAY better. If you did try it, and didnt like it, why didnt you like forward mounting. Just curious.

Here's how the Cantilever was made to be mounted, and what forward mounting looks like. See how the Aimpoint is mounted over tha handguards, out further than the rails on the flat top;

new-arguy, you are absolutely correct. It was designed so that we can mount an IR night vision scope behind the Aimpoint. Thanks.
