I think some of the best threads here are people taking a LaRue and making it their own, so this is my attempt...
This project started as a 16" tAR. LaRue wasn't selling stripped lowers, and I wanted to SBR one, so I bought a complete rifle. The math seemed to work out to where I could sell the upper and be into a complete lower with LaRue furniture and an MBT for what I considered to be a reasonable price. I considered chopping down the tAR upper, but at that time I would have had to re-barrel with something non-LaRue - so I sold the tAR upper with intentions of eventually ordering a 12" Stealth upper. Then along came the LaRue Barrel, Handguard, and Polymer Sale. I instantly regretted selling the tAR upper now that I could get a 12" LaRue barrel for it, but I went ahead and ordered parts to build out my own 12" Stealth. A week or so later, I stumbled upon a new 16" tAR upper for a little less than what I sold mine for, so I bought it. I returned the LaRue parts, sold the 16" tAR barrel, and sent the tAR handguard to someone I trusted to cut it down. There is just something about that tAR look (and the LaRue marked BCG) that I knew I wouldn't be happy without. Other specs: I picked up one of the SLR Sentry 7 Set Screw Adjustable Gas Blocks with (LaRue) 0.450" spacing. The brake is a Dead Air Armament for a Sandman-S that is in NFA purgatory. The sights are LaRue-marked Troys, and I had an extra EOTech to slap on it. This may not be the final configuration, but some pics for now... |

How do you like the Dead Air brakes? Say compared to a surefire or other similar ones you may have used?

I love ur SBR!!! Wish they were legal (along with suppressors) here in the PRC!!!!! I think the first time I ever saw one was in the Movie "Clear and Present Danger" The CIA guy in Columbia had a full auto version....

Looks amazing. That was my own plan, but I ended up selling my tAR upper (to you?). Now I am playing the waiting game hoping for a tOBR upper in 10.5" that I can put on my SBRed tOBR lower then I will shift the 14.5" tOBR upper over to my non SBRed tAR lower.

I would even buy a 16 or 18" PredatOBR if they would add the 12" option to this..

I wish they would sell a 10.5 like they have advertised for select fire govt/ MIL clients.

Going to do this to a tOBR, anyone have a good way to refinish the handguard after chopping it?

Yeah, this is happening. I was inspired by this thread, so I bought an upper, chopped it, an painted it. This will be part of a 300 blackout build and I just purchased a lower from BBOHACH because I'm deploying in two weeks and didn't feel like I could wait for the sales and had to get the form 1 started. Me too, there was no way I was going to cut my original tAR, so I bought an upper off E/E, it didn't come with a bolt carrier system though, oh well. I cut it myself and I beveled the edges near the end. I just didn't trust anyone to do it. |
