So, I need some advice from the experts before I send my upper in.
I'm running a LaRue complete upper with an 18" barrel and midlength gas system. What I would like to do is have ADCO cut the barrel to 13.7" and permanently attach a Noveske KX3 flash hider. I just need to know if I will have any reliability (short stroking) issues running the 13.7" barrel with a middy gas system. I remember reading that the KX3 was designed to increase back pressure, so I'm hoping that this setup would run reliably for me.
I'm running a UBR stock and therefore a carbine buffer and spring, if that makes any difference. Also, I'm not comfortable taking my upper apart, so I will be sending in the whole upper, not just the barrel. What is the charge to disassemble and reassemble the upper?
One last question. The barrel has the ion bond finish. Does the finish get messed up when cutting/retrheading, and if so, can you refinish the area to match the ion bond?
ETA: I see that you do park and gunkote. I think I'll just get the barrel done in a gun kote black. Also ETA: I see that you can move the gas port from MID to CAR. I'm thinking I should do this for the sake of reliability. This service says that if the barrel needs to be contoured, I need to select this. Does my barrel need contoured to have the gas port moved?
